Because the correct way to punish the people who stole money intended to help people in poverty is to punish people in poverty. I mean, they were obviously not receiving any benefits already, they surely can continue to do without.

Look at all those bleeding hearts.

ā€œHey bro, don’t you know that the deaths from poverty and suicide due to another depression will eclipse coronavirus deaths. It’s just the old who die anyway.ā€

The above is getting tossed around all the time now by right-wingers.

The irony being that we’ll just get both.

I know. I argue that. The economy would take a hit no matter what we did. No social distancing would mean more sick and dying, and people would start distancing without being told to.

The ā€œIt’s a pandemic, people dieā€ argument is also ā€œIt’s a pandemic, the economy will be damagedā€ argument, yet many refuse to see that.

John Oliver put it best.

You aren’t trading one bad thing for another.

You are trading one bad thing for BOTH bad things.

I kid, I kid. I respect your willingness to debate trumpalos. I haven’t got the blood pressure for it.

Yeah, didn’t mean to imply you weren’t. It’s just so fucking frustrating.
Thousands of people are going to die and… we’ll get nothing out of it.
But I’m sure the people that are calling for those deaths will somehow.

Yep.

That’s just because Dems don’t want to work and they’re all already on welfare. Amirite?

I go back and forth on it. What I try to do is not drag in politics, i.e., not blame the elephant wearing cheap suit and fake hair in the room, and just sound reasonable. The moment you imply someone is wrong because they watch Fox News, or they are conservative, or they like Trump, you lose them. MUCH AS I WANT TO POUND THAT INTO THEIR SKULLS WITH A 20 POUND SLEDGEHAMMER!!!

I do sometimes feel my BP going up, and that’s when I have to back away and do a Theodore_Rex and start drilling holes in something, usually my skull. That lets the pressure out, among other things!

Also McConnell and the GOP want legal protection from harmful workplace lawsuits.

Of course, because if you crack the whip and order them back, you don’t want to be sued over it!

I don’t like the idea of 51 states. It seems like such an odd number. Soz let’s throw Puerto Rico and Guam in. And American Samoa to make it a cool 54 states.

But 51 states makes a very nice flag.

After a brief wobble, Mike DeWine snaps back on brand.

The justification given for Ohio not spending from its Rainy Day fund is because this year’s budget needs to be balanced by the end of June, and the expectation is that next year will be even worse. We’ve gone from a projected $200m surplus to the nearly $800m deficit in a matter of three months.

This is the type of situation where we should be able to rely on the federal government for help but… you know.

Yeah there’s a lot of this fuckery happening in red states. GA opened up way too early and now our racist governor has pivoted to execute 15% - 20% budget cuts, layoffs, etc. The first ones ā€œhappenā€ to hit social services & public education. Because of course it’s fiscally responsible. Not because it will mostly hurt people that he wants to disenfranchise.
