They are literally dying. The boomers were the biggest voting block forever… And now they are dying off.

That’s where Trump’s supporters are. And they are going to be dead in the next decade or so.

It’s crazy that each previous generation of Republican sounds smarter than the later ones. W sounds smart compared to Trump, Bush 2 was actually pretty smart, Reagan sounds super smart compared to W, etc. Going back to those famous debates between what, Buckley? and whoever (sorry I’m young) and they just get smarter and smarter. Who do they have now carrying the intellectual mantle, Tucker and Ben Shapiro? God damn morons.

Prepare to be disappointed, my man.

Conservatism in America absolutely suffered a complete degeneration of its intellectual foundations. On some level, it was due to the fact that they were taking positions that just straight up opposed reality, so logical discourse couldn’t be used.

The degeneration isn’t past tense. It’s ongoing.

I always am. But i don’t think this looks good for the GOP.

Specifically, this trend:

And I don’t think those younger generations are going to return to the GOP when they get older. Trump is so horrific, that i think he is doing permanent, irreparable damage to the image of the GOP among young people.

The funny thing about this is that now he’s actually agreeing with the premise of the 1619 project, while at the same time pillorying it.

Oh, we’re justifying “necessary evils” now?

(future history book in some timeline)

…while the Penblade Revolution did result in the slaughter of nearly 1/3 of the US population including half of the US Senate, it did usher in a new era of peace and stability across the globe and is seen by many historians today as a “necessary evil”.

Though to give some more context I dug up a longer quote. He’s referring to how slavery was included in the constitution because the slave states wouldn’t have joined otherwise.

“We have to study the history of slavery and its role and impact on the development of our country because otherwise we can’t understand our country. As the Founding Fathers said, it was the necessary evil upon which the union was built, but the union was built in a way, as Lincoln said, to put slavery on the course to its ultimate extinction,” he said.

Dude, okay, but if your whole goal is slinging shit on the 1619 project I don’t think pointing a spotlight on the literal founding sin of our nation that the 1619 project seeks to shed light on is really the strategy you want to go with here. This would seem to be statement more in support of the project than against.

Also, yes, it was necessary because there were racist asshats like you around back then too and they controlled entire states. Thanks for the reminder that you jerks need to be removed from and put far away as possible from power asap before any more “necessary evils” take place.

Not sure being able to cloak terrible ideas/policies in high-falutin’ language is something worth looking back on wistfully.

I think the thought leaders of Trumpism think of Trump’s base in slightly more general terms: people who can be made viscerally afraid of the end of the white majority. To them that tops out at well over 30%, and can remain a potent political force beyond their numbers.

Against Cuomo? There are a ton of them.
Just off the top of my head he seems fine with basically anything police ever do for one.

There are always going to be a bunch of racists, but i honestly don’t think that younger generation are going to be moved by that kind of racial fear mongering that works on older generations.

We actually grew up exposed to black people in popular culture. The idea of black people moving next door just isn’t as frightening to gen X’ers and beyond.

Hell, we were basically raised by shows like sesame street, with lots of perfectly nice people of color. They were just people.

I think that has an impact.

It does, but sadly so do people like Ben Shapiro, Akkad and even PewDiePie.

I’d like to think Sesame Street wins that fight, but the more I see people my own age and younger, I don’t think it did.

Lack of critical thinking makes it easy to exploit people and turn them into racist-friendly people, if not out right racists.

This might be true, I dunno what the effect of that really is, as it’s somewhat recent.

You can swap in Hannity, Limbaugh, et al. The effect goes back quite a ways, it’s just more mainstream now.

Ya, but Hannity and Limbaugh are targeting the older boomers and silent generation. That’s their main target audience, not millennials.

And those generations were, i feel, more ripe for that particular breed of fear mongering.

I definitely agree that there was still a lot of shit and they just talked about it nicer, but also listen to Reagan talk about immigrants. Listen to conservatives in the 60s and 70s talk about abortion. There’s definitely been a move from one ideology to another over time. In fact I think the only driving ideologies left may be corporatist and fascist.

and of course White and Male

Larry Hogan is criticizing Trump openly.
Trump will be throwing him under the bus within minutes, i assume.
