My understanding (not fully informed, most probably) is that Osteopathy’s origin story is filled with woo, but that modern DO schools have very much converged on the standard MD curriculum with, as @Calelari says, a few weird-sounding courses. There are parts of the country (like Michigan, I believe) where you are every bit as likely to be treated by a DO as an MD and others where DOs are few and far between.

That said, my impression is that, in many parts of the country where both kinds of schools exist, the MD schools tend to recruit the top-tier applicants more than the DO schools do.

It is amazing to me how much of America has, in only a decade or so, completely convinced themselves that people like Dr. Anthony Fauci are somehow not to be trusted and actively working against public best interests, while people like Dr. Infowars and Dr. Sex Demons are not only credible, but worthy of holding up as professional equals to people like Dr. Fauci.

Why is so much of America so fucking stupid all of the sudden? Forget Coronavirus, the real pandemic in the US is the spread of Conservative Media/QANON/Conspiracy idiocy.

20+ years of Fox, and Rush filling their heads full of shit?

Agreed. Then along comes social media to bring lonely morons who thought they were the only “enlightened ones” together into one place and suddenly the echo chamber starts to grow exponentially. “Do the research!” becomes the chant of the awoken, while the rest of us sheeple blindly worship our “experts”, “vaccines” and “science”.

aka Trumpism.

I am not. Yes in the US osteopathy has largely jettisoned the nonsense but they still have lower standards and they still teach spinal manipulation junk science.

Outside of the US it’s much worse. Here in Canada osteopaths are not doctors and should never be confused for them.

Does osteopathy overlap with chiropractic in some way?

A friend of mine’s sister in law (or something like that) got a D.O. some years back. Still trying to figure out the extent to which that makes them a ‘real’ doctor.

In the United States, they are a real doctor.

Granted, a real doctor that took additional training in what amounts to quackery.

Partial sourcing: work at a university with teaching hospital system attached; and, our former head of psychiatry was a DO.

Flat out clown. If he’s not the dumbest MFer in congress, he’s in the top three.

I’LL SHOW YOU OUTTA ORDER!

“Gym, Devin, Gaetz – Fuck you too!”

He really is like a combination of Lionel Hutz and Gil from the Simpsons:

He was 80, that’s almost a couple decades past the age where Republicans consider life to officially end. It’s a complicated equation but I believe life begins when a young lad first discovers the forbidden sin of masturbation as his first sperm are blessed with the gift of sentience. Then the GOP lifespan comes to an abrupt end once a sperm-egg combination is first eligible to collect social security.

Congressman COVID Superspreader (R-TX)

I wonder if the candidate himself even knew about this? I suspect it was someone on the team thinking it was a good idea. Then again, it’s a Republican. There is no bar too low.

Apparently, he also has skin and clothes made of corrugated sheet metal.

Very Serious senator shares Very Serious thoughts.

MD is founded in humors and bloodletting but both MD and DO followed evidence based science once it became available and is why they both have full practice rights in the US.

Please have a clue before spouting nonsense.
