The GOP is still morally corrupt, even if Discourse breaks

I doubt there are more than 10,000 voters who regard Mattis as one of the great military minds of his generation. That’s an inside baseball view that might be unadulterated nonsense, like so many inside baseball views.

Mattis isn’t a Republican.

I find it exceedingly unlikely that we would engage in a political campaign.

I suspect there are more than 10k marines alone who would describe him as such. He’s a legend.

It’s very hard to overstate the seemingly universal love for Mattis within the corps, and it extends or into other branches. I think that the last time there was a poll on this, his approval rating was something nuts like 90%.

Wow, R’s actually doing something about Racist Steve. I wish I thought this was a trend.

The sheepdog speech had been circulating for years, mainly in military circles, and it conveys a simple idea: There are three kinds of people in the world—the sheep who need protection, the wolves who seek to devour the sheep, and the sheepdogs, those blessed with a “gift of aggression [and] an overpowering need to protect the flock.” Kyle’s father’s words frame the whole rest of the movie. “You know who you are. You know your purpose.”

He has been saying this shit for years and they did nothing. Now that there is republican party research into his effect on the 2018 elections, they are worried he will be a drag on the entire GOP ticket in 2020, risking a senate seat and the presidency.

This is big. Hopefully this contribution to the ‘keep brown people from voting’ mantra of the GOP will stay struck down.

The Obamacare thread now seems to be broken as well, as I couldn’t post this in there…kept getting “Bad Gateway” errors. So I’ll just leave it here…

Senator Rand Paul, vocal opponent of Obamacare and socialized medicine, to undergo hernia surgery at Canadian hospital.

While Senator Paul is paying out of pocket for this surgery (since he’s obviously not covered under Canada’s government health plan), it does reek of hypocrisy that he’s going to a hospital that, while privately owned, receives the majority of it’s funding and compensation from the Canadian government and it’s universal health plan. Are the in-network hospitals in the United States that accept the Senate health insurance not good enough? Are there not private out-of-network hospitals in America that he could go to if he didn’t like his in-network options? I’m sure there are, but they would cost 3X what the Canadian hospital will charge him.

Certainly, bootstraps would require that this physician heal himself right?

Not really sure how you explain to your constituents in KY that you’re leaving not only the state but the country to have your routine surgery done. I assume it’s pretty routine at least and doesn’t require some sort of Canadian guru on hernias.

I mean, I thought that the U.S. had the best hospitals?

Important piece of information about the Canada center (from the article):

While Shouldice Hernia Hospital is privately owned — like many Canadian hospitals — it receives a majority of its funding from the Ontario government and accepts the Ontario’s Hospital Insurance Plan.

The hospital’s website outlines payments it accepts, including cash, check or credit card for those patients, like Paul, who are not covered by Ontario’s insurance plan or a provincial health insurance plan.

Showing that Private care doesn’t need to be a casualty of Universal coverage, which has been a key component of the GOP’s position for a LONG time. Especially as it appears as if this is possibly the best Hospital for this procedure.

Absolutely. I never understood why people seem to think “socialized healthcare” means we all end up waiting for hours at some dirty, dim, run-down hospital to see cut-rate doctors for sub-par care. It will literally be the exact same hospital system we have now, only we would all have the same base benefits, which manages costs and standard of care across the board. Hospitals could always still offer additional services for additional cost, either out-of-pocket or I’m sure the American insurance industry would be happy to step in and create “enhanced benefits” plans to sell to people who wanted them.

And that’s after you get past the Death Panel.

You’ve just described the Australian system at least - universal (“public”) healthcare, plus a private system if you don’t want waiting lists and want your own room in hospital, etc.

Yeah, but we’ve all seen the video footage smuggled out of your country showing what a total hellscape Communist Australia is and how the people there live in abject poverty and misery subsisting on scraps thrown to them by their elitist socialist liberal government. NOT IN MY AMERICA!!!

Yeah, I don’t understand how you guys could have voted for Immortan Joe.

Christie spits some truth.

“amateurs,” “weaklings,” and “unconvicted felons”

before which I prostrated myself, rolled over, and patted my big tummy to get a job next to.

Game recognize game.
