I have friends whose views consist of antivax, anti white Christian “genocide”, anti5G, Covid is overblown, antiglobalist etc. Basically euro trumpers. Politically speaking, they are beyond redemption as these views are now part of who they are, they will never change. I sometimes poke fun at some of their inconsistences but don’t bother tackling politics beyond that.

So to answer the question, I haven’t stopped being friends with them in the first place. And the main reason is that the evolution of their radicalisation stopped at some point, they’re not getting worse. Probably because they have a family, other interests/hobbies so they are not “all in” so to speak.

Donnie Jr. is not a mere carbon copy of his father. No, he’s found an entirely new way of insulting the memory of dead soldiers!

From Donnie Jr.'s new ghost-written* book:

It was the day before the inauguration, and we were driving into Arlington National Cemetery, where he was to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I rarely get emotional, if ever. I guess you’d call me hyper-rational, stoic. Yet, as we drove past the rows of white grave markers, in the gravity of the moment, I had a deep sense of the importance of the presidency and a love of our country. I was never prouder of my father than when I watched as he stood before the tomb, his hand over his heart, while the Army bugler played ‘Taps.’

“In that moment, I also thought of all the attacks we’d already suffered as a family, and about all the sacrifices we’d have to make to help my father succeed—voluntarily giving up a huge chunk of our business and all international deals to avoid the appearance that we were ‘profiting off the office.’”

~* You can’t convince me that any of Donnie’s progeny know the words “hyper-rational” or “stoic.”

I still prefer “stoical” for the adjectival form. Come at me bro

That’s code for his Q followers, people. It’s an anagram for “they conspiratorial”.

Jr. is a jenius, 8D chess bitches.

I value friends and family over politics, but can we please use the cudgel on McConnell?

I performed dimensional reduction on his chess game, and the eigenvector pointed at stupid.

They’ve done such a good job of avoiding the appearance of profiting from the Office of the Presidency.

If this were followed up by a “I realized that, despite how difficult all those trials and tribulations had been for our family, they were nothing in comparison with what the families of those buried at Arlington had been through” or something similar, Donnie might not come off as bad as his daddy. Unfortunately, such is apparently not the case (although I will admit that I’m not willing to buy Donnie’s book in order to verify that!)

This excerpt from the great S.V. Dáte’s new book is amazing.

Seems like Romney’s looking to rebrand with that strong take:

Susan Collins furrowed brow watch is on.

Speaking of Susan Collins:

There’s a special place in hell reserved for Susan Collins, but there’s an extra-special one for Joe Lieberman.

(I freely admit this properly belongs in a “Some ex-Dems are just as morally bankrupt as the GOP” thread, but I’m not about to start a new thread for Joe fucking Lieberman.)

Just put Lieberman and Collins together in a sealed room for eternity.

As Sartre said, “Hell is other people.”

Just a tangent on one brief thing the article mentioned:

I’m 42 years old, I remember that election although I was too young to vote. It of course makes sense when I think about it, but A) 1992 doesn’t seem that long ago in my head and B) California being described as “reliably Republican” just seems so alien to me.

We’re so polarized these days that my brain just has most of the states catalogued into Blue states and Red states and it’s easy for me to forget the shifts that occur.I mean, Missouri used to be a tossup. I remember pundits making a big deal of the fact that Gore didn’t carry his home state of Tennessee in 2000 but now the thought of any Democrat carrying a red southern state like that seems like a pipe dream, home state or not.

I suppose 2016 may have seen the start of the shift to places like Wisconsin and Minnesota going red. Hopefully that’s balanced with NC, Georgia, or even Texas someday leaving the dark side.

Mitt actually voted to expel Trump from the White House, so I’m a bit more lenient when he furrows his brow now.

Meaningless protest vote. He might as well have pulled the lever for Jill Stein.

EDIT: Mitt Romney, who would buy and sell your ass for a .02% profit is not a good person for tossing out a useless vote designed only to bolster his political future. Fuck All Republicans.

I don’t agree. It is one of the most substantial acts of resistance by any sitting GOP member of Congress against Trump and Trumpism. And my respect for it has nothing to do with whether I agree with Republican fiscal policy or Mitt’s background as a corporate raider.

I mean, you can’t on the one hand go on and on about ‘furrowed brows’ and ‘concerned’ and all that Susan Collins stuff, and then on the other hand say it is meaningless when a GOP politician literally crosses party lines to impeach his party’s president. I can’t think of a more substantial thing Romney could have done against Trump. It’s certainly more than I have ever done against Trump. All I’ve done is vote, march a few times, and rant on message boards.

He voted on one of two charges, knowing his vote would equal exactly “one deeply furrowed” brow.
