I mean Goddamn. Was anybody here saying they admired Romney or was gonna ever cast a vote for him in anything?
The dude did one decent thing in his political career. He voted to impeach when the rest of his party didn’t. He gets credit for that and only that.
Oh yeah. I’m on board. I’m writing down his one achievement in the smallest script I can manage. In the words of Jeb Bush, “Please clap.”
This line is the textbook definition of a straw man.
Dude, no offense, but push-lease. This forum has been taken down a thousand longer rabbit holes, than 6 posts in an afternoon by me.
Hey, it’s yet another one of the MItt Romney: Shitty, or Really Shitty? debates.
This happens every other week.
I think you’ll find that people do tend to take offense if you deliberately, repeatedly miscast their position or views after repeatedly being corrected about them, dude.
I don’t think my views about Mitt Romney can be corrected, they are like my opinion, man.
Edit: really don’t want to fight with people, even ones that don’t matter to our political situation.
I was talking about my views, the ones you’re miscasting. But never mind.

The argument that every single thing that a Republican does is automatically bad (particularly if you agree with the Democrats who did the same thing) is silly and is behaving exactly like the shitty Republicans you are condemning.
Saying someone did an individual good thing is not the same thing as saying that they are good.

@DeForrestation, I’m sure you’re reading my posts and others but your responses have me feeling like you’re reading something completely different. That might be my fault, I’m sorry that we seem to be talking past each other here.
I haven’t been bamboozled by Romney. I know who and what he is, and I’m not a fan. Not even a little bit of a fan. That doesn’t change anything that I said about his impeachment vote, which I still stand by.
In any case, I don’t really want to fight either because I have a feeling we’re 99% in agreement. You see Romney as white, I see him as white with a little patch of eggshell. I think we’d both describe the wall as white, though.
There is a large class of Americans that are absolutely thirsty to return to the pre Trump status quo where the gop simply acted via dogwhistle and quiet legislative acts. The end result for people like me is the same. Just less overt. I refuse to be part of the red carpet committee for any of them hoping to return to public favor. That’s it.
I don’t think any of us belong to that group. I’m sure I don’t.
Then why quibble with me over Romney’s “one good act”. I don’t care that on paper it was “brave.”
Do you want me to say “I believe bad people can do good things!” From the top of a mountain? Of course they can. I see it every day, and I’m sure you do too. Doesn’t deserve veneration.
I think you are missing the point by conducting this entire conversation on a good <-> evil axis. Evil is like ice cream. There’s lots of flavors. It’s important to understand which flavor is being discussed.
Romney is a different flavor than the blatant Trump toadies. He has much more respect for institutions and rule of law. He’s not saintly, he just sins in different areas.

This is a profoundly bad take.
By this measure, it was cool for all the other Republicans to vote to acquit, since it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
Romney’s vote was correct. There’s absolutely no reason to suggest otherwise.
I addressed this previously by referencing a “shit gradient.”
But I do appreciate your analogy as well
Fair enough, I just really like equating ice cream to evil.
The Axis of Flavor!
and I don’t think I ever called Mitt evil, just a shit drain that would buy and sell all of us for a small profit.
I mostly want you to stop saying things like this:
I think I’ve made it clear that I don’t venerate the guy.
