She ain’t wrong.

Preach, sister Elizabeth.

Dumbest motherfucker in congress, even counting Louie Gohmert. He’s basically become Charlie Kirk.

Let’s make a deal: the moment Hunter Biden runs for President, we demand he release his tax returns to show any such conflicts of interest.

Hey, the zero-effort redirect has been a tried and true tactic on playgrounds around the world for centuries.

Lets see ivankas tax returns first, k?

Prepare for the wrathful MAGA cancel culture, Rock.

I’m okay with nutjobs leaving the treasure of Dwayne Johnson for the rest of us.

I’m going to start recommending lots of Rock movies to my in laws just to fuck with them.

Dwayne Johnson is not an idiot. In fact, he appears to be very smart and business savvy.

So it should come as no surprise that there would be a right-wing backlash against him coming out for Biden. He’s never espoused any sort of political inclination until now, likely because of the potential downside (or maybe he just never cared enough).

So there’s a reason he did this and took the risk. That reason could be that he genuinely feels like the future of the Republic is at risk and wants to do what he can to prevent it.

I also think he has political aspirations of his own and that was his coming out party. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him follow Schwarzenegger’s path and run for Governor somewhere, and he’s a natural-born US citizen so he’s not precluded from the Big Job if he ever wants to seek it.

Is she even Catholic, bro?

I was just saying yesterday that she has crazy chihuahua eyes.

That reminds me, I’ve got an episode of The Vow to watch.

That the people he served with in Congress were always like this.

As soon as her pictures surfaced I guessed to myself she would have whites all the way around the iris, and yup, crazy eyes coney.

I don’t know anything about People of Praise other than the brief stuff I read when her name started getting floated around, but damn if that doesn’t sound like some creepy cult shit. I mean, I don’t know anything about Barrett, maybe she’s whip smart and an absolutely lovely woman (given who is nominating her, I have my doubts), but one thing I want in a Supreme Court justice is independence of thought. I don’t want to worry a SC justice going to his/her “head” or cult for advice on how to decide on a certain case.

Same, which is why I only support the nomination of atheist judges from here on out!

Perhaps you know that line in the bible (Acts) about how the earliest Christian community “were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common” and “distribution was made to each as any had need”? It’s a bit that socialist Christians often point to to support their style of living the faith. That’s the inspiration behind a community like People of Praise. It’s people trying to live in a close-knit way with other families who share their beliefs.

Even then, it’s not monolithic in belief. Barrett is Catholic, but People of Praise includes Catholics and numerous types of Protestants. Right there that tells you that Barrett is not a radical conservative Catholic: those folks typically reject the ecumenism of Vatican II that makes a community like that acceptable.

I’m not sure, but the “head” and “handmaiden” stuff sounds to me like it’s basically a spiritual director, which is a pretty common relationship to have in Catholic circles. (Maybe in Protestant ones, too?) Spiritual directors are not like military commanders or a religious superior like an abbot, to whom you make a vow of obedience. They don’t order you to do anything. They’re closer to therapists, with a spiritual focus.

I think there’s a lot less to be alarmed at in this group than there appears to be. If you’re alarmed, you should first ask yourself if it’s just because it sounds like something outside your personal experience, and whether that means it should be seen as menacing.
