Pretty sure that those ballot boxes are illegal under California law.
Most of them are at gun shops and gun ranges, although there’s one at a Sinclair gas station.
Somebody probably thinks it is the same Sinclair that owns the TV stations.

I’d be surprised if many states allow random people to collect ballots to, wink, wink, deliver them.

Only if you designate a specific person.
If you’re some 85-year-old that doesn’t get around easily, you can designate your care provider or son to deliver your ballot. You cannot, however, designate some random person via a drop box.
At least that is my understanding of it.
