The guy who once shot imaginary drones out of the sky in his campaign ad weighs in.
Calling them âcowardsâ gives them too much credit. They are actively hostile to democracy and it is not because of fear of the Former Guy or his supporters.

And funnily enough the war dragged on for another decade and a half after that banner flew.
But weâll finally get to find out what John Kasich thinks!
The WaPo goes into more detail, but your main point is absolutely true. Unless the group of 100 is made up of mostly current elected officials, itâs not really relevant⌠I certainly respect Rep. Adam Kinzinger, and if the GOP had 200 guys like him, I might switch. But Kinzinger, like Cheney and Romney are tiny minority, in an irredeemable party.

Yeah, the only people who matter when forming a third party are people who are already elected. There are only two parties because itâs too hard for people who arenât elected to form a party and get elected. But if one suddenly appeared from the ranks of another party then they might have a chance (or at least a chance to destroy that party).

There is zero indication that Republicans even want a new non-Trump party. Trump got a shit-load of votes and very nearly won the election, even after all the shit that he did.
The Republican party is not a run-away train. Never-Trumpers might not like the direction the train is going, but that doesnât mean the party as a whole doesnât.
Sometime, in the last couple years or so, I reached the same conclusion. I alternate between pity and fury, at my Republican friends, plus sister and brother-in-law, who really despise Trump but continue to support the party. You canât stop the train, the sooner you jump off, the faster the damn thing will run of the tracks, and the Republican will be thrown out of power countrywide and we can start the rebuilding of alternative party to the Democrats.

Theyâre not jumping off the train.
This isnât a few crackpots. This is every elected Republican congressperson, minus one. And not a single one of them will lose their next primary election to a less-Trumpy alternative. Some will likely lose to a more Trumpy candidate.
The die has been cast. There will be no splinter party that isnât crazy.
What we need to do is prepare our lawyers for the inevitable effort to overturn every future election in which a Democrat wins. That is the path Republicans are on, and it will start in 2022.
The numbers are pretty much the numbers. ~95% of the GOP is insane - which is pretty much the number who voted against Impeachment and/or actually Certifying the Election in congress.

Oh men of the GOP, donât ever change.
The mix and match trial for vaccines went pretty well

Itâs just a weird legacy. I only ever learned the metric system in school. I have no idea of what a mile is, but I am very comfortable knowing exactly how far a kilometre is. And I still say my height in feet and inches. And so will my kids, because thatâs how I tell it to them. Just one of those things.
Agreed. After all, weight is properly denoted in stone.
Exactly this. Also air temp is centigrade water temp (and body temp) is Fahrenheit.
LOL I was hoping for a shout out for fathoms, and furlongs per fortnight.

Fathoms are still used for nautical charts. At least in the US.
Edit: A quick googling shows the international standard is now meters and the NOAA is slowly changing over.
