This is so fucked. The Constitution really needs to be revisited. States should be allowed to overturn the results of their own voters.
It’s clear that there are many in the GOP that are willing to ignore the Constitution and simply seize power.
I’ve always suspected you might feel this way.

I think if a state legislature overturns a national election, that will be the event that breaks America. I can’t see the losing side accepting that under any circumstance.
I suppose the core problem is that the Constitution doesn’t require that the states have popular elections for president; it leaves up to the states the manner in which they choose their electors. If states do have elections, the Constitution protects the right to vote, and arguably it prevents the states from arbitrarily tossing election results; but of course that backstop just leads to the courts, and who knows what the conservative majority will make of all that.
That said, I think the members of any state legislature that unilaterally disenfranchises the majority after the votes have been counted are in for a much bumpier ride than they imagine.
Georgia is really the example here. It’s a state where Republicans had control of the legislature and the executive and oversaw the election. When Trump narrowly lost, what stopped them from flipping the results to Trump through the legislature? I don’t think it had much to do with the personal integrity of the players. I think they just balked at the idea of overthrowing the will of the majority and facing the likely consequences of that in terms of social upheaval; and probably they realized that it would not be enough to make a difference anyway. I see the same dynamic in Arizona’s unwillingness to act.

These days I pray. I never used to pray. But now I pray to face eating leopards.

May their hunger never be slaked.
Have some pity for the poor leopard. All this red meat (see what I did there?) in their diet can’t be good for them on the long run.

While technically not an example of GOP moral corruption this is too entertaining not to post somewhere and here seems as good a place as any.
Because in Texas merchandise on store shelves has more rights than the employees stocking the store shelves. This is completely on-brand for the GOP.

Having the governor admit that their law has “basically outlawed abortion in texas” is not going to play well in future legal challenges.

There is a joke about the size of Texas in here, but I’m too tired to think of it.
This is why I love this place.
