Mississippi and roaring economy are so disconnected that I spent a moment thinking wow, that’s an odd statement for Microsoft to make. Wasn’t until I clicked the video that I was “Oh Mississippi! That makes sense.”
Narrator: It still did not make sense.

Heh.
The no covid restrictions part at least.

Iowa has a similar population, similar economic base and almost twice the GDP.

When your schools are ranked 46th out of 50, it’s easy to convince people that 49/50 is good, because they can’t do math.
49/50 > 46/50. The math checks out too, Timex!

Mississippi’s growth rate over the last 5 years was about 1%. Ethiopia’s was about 10%. Their GDPs are very similar at about $100b each.

I was going to use a question mark since I only knew they had similar GDPs, but it also doesn’t surprise me at all that Ethiopia’s growth dwarfs Mississippi’s. Though to be fair anything someone tells me about MS that is terrible I’m inclined to believe because MS is terrible.

Pretty much.
By any metric most of the deep south is a cultural, economic, and educational wasteland that were it not for federal money would be the equivalent of living in places TFG referred to as shithole countries
Theres a reason when I was switching careers and had the option to interview for a company out of Alabama I declined.
Mississippi, as I’ve mentioned a few times is the only state in union, I haven’t visited. For completeness’ sake, I feel like I should go there, but you all are doing a lousy job in selling the place.
The gulf coast part of Mississippi doesn’t count for credit. You’ve got to visit some shithole place like Mound Bayou.

I spent eight months on the Gulf Coast as art of weather school. It really wasn’t too different than where I’m at now.
Where I ended up stationed, at Shaw was very very different.
I wanted to see the world, I got to see the parts of America worse than here.
There are a few worthwhile things to see and do in Mississippi. Vicksburg, where I was born, has an amazing Civil War museum and battlefield maintained by the National Park Service that can easily fill an entire day if you’re into that period in history.
The Natchez Trace Parkway runs from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi, and the section that runs through Mississippi has many historical sites to stop and visit. In and around towns like Natchez and Vicksburg you can find dozens of restored historic Antebellum homes and plantations to tour.
Oxford, Mississippi is home to Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) and several more historic sites and homes you can visit.
If you’re not big on Civil War history and don’t find riverboats kind of cool, there probably won’t be much to interest you in Mississippi, as that’s pretty much the majority of the touristy things they have. I mean, you could head to Tupelo and check out the birthplace of Elvis I suppose.
Oh I’m sure the economy in MS is roaring for the folks making 150k and up who are tied into the world economy and are insulated from the local economy’s stagnation/COVID-related disruptions. The “people who matter” in other words, as far as politicians are concerned.

House fires are roaring, technically. He didn’t really define his metaphor.

Twitter needs to ban those comments entirely as transphobic. They do it in isolated cases.
