You cover the context that matters, I’ll cover the pop culture beat. Teamwork!

I’ll cover the docks! Together we can beat this.

So Kinzinger not running for reelection. I guess we get a MAGAt Qreep instead.
Scotten

Well he was already getting redistricted. I’m trying to figure his next move: he could make a run for the US Senate but I doubt he could beat Durbin or Duckworth. Presidential candidate?
ShivaX

No way in hell. He couldn’t beat Carlson or Don Jr in a primary, much less Trump, Pence or DeSantis.

Switch parties
Run for president
Win
Profit???
I can’t imagine he’s done with politics, so I’m super curious as to what he’s doing next. His district is just west of me & I know a number of people who like him.
Maybe run for governor? Illinois sometimes elects Republican governors.
Scotten

I’m wondering that. The last Republican governor went head to head with the Democratic Machine in Illinois and it was stalemate.
I didn’t even know this was thing. I’ve seen the phrase, but I legit thought it was a sports thing.

It came from a race car driver who miraculously won a race despite being the most poorly funded. Fans started an FU Biden chant, and the NBC guy said it was Let’s go Brandon.
Since then, Brandon has lost his opportunity for more sponsorship because no one wants to associate because of his association with the chant. He’s prob the biggest victim of all of this.

And this is the state of the GOP is 2021. My hats off to Tucker and Trump and Putin and the other smaller voices that have helped contributed to the deconstruction of democracy.
Everyone knows that pissing off folks who’ve funded your campaigns in the past is sure-fired way of winning elections. DeSantis is giving Trump a run for his money in the stupid department.

He fears Trump World more than he does corporate donors.
Alstein

I’m not so sure this matters as much now- the money has gotten so large, and people are so rabid that small donations can fund a campaign sufficiently (see Trump and Bernie), that you can run against business.
Citizens United created a monster, and a bigger monster is coming to deal with it.

The best (worst) part of this stupid thing is that people who do it think they’re so cool and brave for doing it.
Yes, you’re so brave to… not say what you believe?
Like I said “Fuck Trump” several times a day and to anyone. I didn’t have some secret handshake.
If you want to say “Fuck Joe Biden” fucking say it. Hell, I might even agree with you some days.
But if you say “Let’s Go Brandon” I know you’re just a coward that spends too much time with online right-wingers. You’re virtue signaling to fascists and incels and you can fuck right off.
That pilot who said it can find a new job just like he would if he’d said: “Thanks for flying Southwest and remember ACAB.”
I was confused too. “Brandon Sanderson? He’s already writing books as fast as a person can write books.”
I see the Brandon thing constantly on local media on FB. Of course I live in SW Ohio where the average IQ hovers around 90 and books are for elites. . . .
Wrong. Look at all the money which went to beating McConnell rather than being effective. These donations don’t flip statehouses, fix state voting rights or other Alec bills, etc.
Big money is getting win after win after win, And foreign money is also flowing like water in the dark caverns.

You are probably right grass root donations are sufficient for a populist candidate.
Although, I’d say it just goes to show overhyped the panic over Citizen United was. After Citizen’s United, Enron, Facebook, Google, Citibank, Phillip Morris, United Health were supposed basically elect their favorite candidates. While in fact, we’ve seen just the opposite individual donors have proliferated, and corporate and PACs have dropped as a percentage of funding.
To the point now, where conventional political hack like DeSantis can tell the chamber of commerce to fuck off.
