They still think this is effective.
Or maybe Chuck only just got around to the last time they tried to push this 4 months or so ago.

Grassley doesnāt suggest that itās bad. Maybe heās congratulating the Biden administration!
Narrator: he isnāt.
Forget it, Josh. Itās Americatown.

Witzke is trash. She only exists to make the stuff that mainstream Republicans do/say seem normal.
I think fans of Gen. Sherman in this thread should take heed of the speech he delivered to the graduating class of the Michigan Military Academy in 1879:
Iāve been where you are now and I know just how you feel. Itās entirely natural that there should beat in the breast of every one of you a hope and desire that some day you can use the skill you have acquired here.
Suppress it! You donāt know the horrible aspects of war. Iāve been through two wars and I know. Iāve seen cities and homes in ashes. Iāve seen thousands of men lying on the ground, their dead faces looking up at the skies. I tell you, war is Hell!
Yes, people are genuinely hoping that General Sherman will rise from the grave and burn a large swath of the southeastern United States. Thanks for pointing out how much heād dislike that.
He was saying much the same thing to the South after secession:
This country will be drenched in blood. God only knows how it will end. Perhaps the liberties of the whole country, of every section and every man will be destroyed, and yet you know that within the Union no manās liberty or property in all the South is endangered. ⦠Oh, it is all folly, madness, a crime against civilization. ⦠You people speak so lightly of war. You donāt know what youāre talking about. War is a terrible thing. I know you are a brave, fighting people, but for every day of actual fighting, there are months of marching, exposure and suffering. More men die in war from sickness than are killed in battle. At best war is a frightful loss of life and property, and worse still is the demoralization of the people. ā¦
You mistake, too, the people of the North. They are a peaceable people, but an earnest people and will fight too, and they are not going to let this country be destroyed without a mighty effort to save it.
Besides, where are your men and appliances of war to contend against them? The Northern people not only greatly outnumber the whites at the South, but they are a mechanical people with manufactures of every kind, while you are only agriculturistsāa sparse population covering a large extent of territory, and in all history no nation of mere agriculturists ever made successful war against a nation of mechanics.

He would. But heād also do it again.
Honestly, the best(?) solution is that both side agree if anything pops off, the first thing they do is kill all the political leaders of the other side. If this was the understood plan, I bet a lot of political leaders would suddenly find ways to back us off the brink and find a path through together.
Anyway if we have a Civil WOAR I think more will depend on what the U.S. military does, as opposed to what some latte drinking liberals and gun-waving rednecks will do to each other. But weāve gone over all that before.

Never discount how horrific sectarian violence is.
The US Army, even if they picked a side, canāt be everywhere and protect everything. Theyād be lucky to protect their bases and the surrounding areas. Theyād utterly crush any formal resistance, but crushing a lone dude with a rifle picking people off semi-randomly isnāt in their mission set.
Given that plenty of cops are on team red, and more than few soldiers are as well, and the vast number of gun owners. Iām not sure that violence is a bad strategy for team red.
If the solders follow the generals, Team blue is in good shape if notā¦
Last war the northerners were derided as clerks and shopkeepers, but after a few weeksā drilling they were as capable as the other side. It took a while to catch up to cavalry parity, and the South arguably had superior officers in some theaters for a time. Of course it was the difference in manpower and industrial/economic strength that ultimately told.
But really things are so different now in so many ways that comparisons like that donāt amount to much.
Itās just ironic for people to invoke his name while gleefully fantasizing about waging a war against their political opponents.
The 89% of Democrats who do not believe that Americans have to resort to violence in order to save our country are in the right here.

Yup a totally accurate description.
No, youāre right that what I wrote in my last post was too alarmist. I guess I just really donāt like the normalization of political violence, although it was used in a joking manner in this thread.
If you think thatās what I was doing, youāve never understood a single thing Iāve said. I guess thatās my fault, but my fucking God.
While I initially shared @Gordon_Cameronās view that some of the posts came across as Civil War fanfic, I wouldnāt suspect you of partaking in that genre because I know youāve advocated against that sort of thing in other threads.

I rather enjoyed the Weapons of Choice series. One key difference to The Final Countdown is that the ships are far more advanced. Itās been a while since Iāve read it, but the technology base for the ships that end up back in WW2 is probably about 40-50 years ahead of where we are right now.
BTW, all this talk of the American Civil War reminds me that I never watched Glory and I need to remedy that ASAP. Anyone know if itās on one of the streaming services?
Its on netflix in Canada so perhaps in the US as well
One of the greatest war movies ever made imho.
