About the only thing that “normal” Republicans have going for them is that they weren’t trying to cancel the latest Presidential election after the fact by making shit up about “voter fraud.” (Although as I recall former Bush Administration AG Alberto Gonzales had to resign due to a pressure campaign on DoJ officials to root out fraud that turned out to not exist in an substantial, election-affecting way.)

But said “normal” Republicans are still totes down with the project of turning everyone but the top 0.1% of the population into a serf class that exists only to feed the corporations and their stockholders/senior officers, mining/harvesting/polluting the planet till there’s nothing left.

He paid lip service to the stolen election stuff, refusing to answer whether Biden’s election was legitimate until after the state party convention. He played dumb when asked about whether Trump would be reinstated, saying that it was still in the courts. He did things like let / encourage Trump and Trumpists campaign for him then later try to put rhetorical distance between himself and them. He initially refused to answer whether he would have voted to certify Biden’s election, and only said he would have after he was asked multiple times.

To me, it just seems like he’s a dishonest opportunist. So, really, a Republican, no better than the norm.

He was happy to get Trump’s endorsement and court his insurrectionists and conspiracy nutjobs.

He just didn’t go full Ted Cruz and act like in idiot doing it.

Youngkin regularly received his loudest applause when he promised to ban critical race theory, an academic approach to racial history that’s not actually part of the Virginia K-12 curriculum. And he marketed himself as the candidate who would give parents a say over what their students learn in school. He promised that if elected he would appoint both a new Virginia superintendent and secretary of education.

At the beginning of his campaign, while still vying for the Republican nomination, Youngkin spent time campaigning on more conservative issues like [“election integrity,”] and waited until he secured the nomination to publicly say he believed President Biden had been fairly elected.

Sure he doesn’t think we should have real elections anymore, but let’s hear him out. Maybe he just wants to keep black people from voting.

During the second debate in September, Youngkin said he would support Trump if he were to be the Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election.

And sure he’s putting party over country and will support a traitor, but maybe that’s okay and we should be okay with dictators.

Basically the GOP’s take on this (there are like 50 articles) is that this is the path. Suck Trump’s cock and MAGA, but be like classy about it and change the subject. Get those dogwhistles back to dogwhistles, but also let’s destroy the republic, but we’ll do it quietly. At least until Trump runs in 2024, then whatever, hopefully we’ll have that whole elections not mattering thing sorted by then.

Edit: This is just my opinion of course, though I think it’s backed up.
Also it’s Bill Kristol. Dude helped invade Iraq. But if he’s falling for it, it’s an issue.
Though Bill is fine with the way things were before Trump. He used to be the low bar after all.

Also stuff like this:

Oh I won? Nevermind, no fraud here, guys.

Rudy and Sydney’s depositions illustrate what we ALL know - that the GOP is a post-truth party, and any lie which furthers their ambitions will not be questioned:

It speaks volumes that I can find some amount of solace in Youngkin ‘only’ being that much of a dishonest, raging fuckhead.

Whoopsie.

I agree, Youngkin strikes me as a sane Republican. Yes, he shows the moral courage of rat facing cat colony, but accepting Trump endorsement is realistically the only way of getting elected as Republican anymore. Now, if pushes bullshit election laws, then he should be treated like the rest of the Republican scum.

Is he sane or just smart enough to not say the quiet part out loud like most Trumpies? Honestly, that’s always been my biggest fear. Trump was a bloviating idiot, I’m worried about the next person who follows the path without punching themselves in the dick repeatedly. I mean, just imagine Jan 6 but with actual planning.

Given what the GOP is very much openly about these days, I question anyone who would still run under that umbrella.

Sane is to Republican as cold is to fire.

Pillow Mike gonna take on Big Machine. Look out, Caterpillar!

Against all “machine” companies? The Lindellian Jihad?

Thou shalt not make a voting machine in the image of a man’s mind. It is written.

But is he going to rage against them?

Where is that like button again??

He also said he was going file a suit with SCOTUS on November 23 so that people would discuss it over the holiday weekend. Serious question: who the fuck listens or believes this guy in 2021? Nothing he ever said has come true.

Don’t smoke crack, kids.

A not insignificant chunk of the population believes that statement to be true about ALL politicians. I don’t say that to excuse them, but only to explain why they might choose entertaining nonsense if they believe all their options are nonsense.

I believe that some leaves are green and some cars are green. So some leaves are cars. Prove me wrong, libtard!
