My wife and I are friends with the president of our school board, which just implemented a transgender bathroom policy allowing the student to use the room of their identified gender. The board meeting saw a pack of howling monkeys who lost their collective minds and have been issuing veiled threats ever since. Her son is a freshman and she’s scared for his safety now.

I expect other states to pass similar legislation.

Not sure if you’re serious or joking. I’m pretty sure the existence of gender-switching salons wouldn’t suddenly cause everyone to become psychologically genderfluid. There are people who keep the exact same haircut their entire lives, after all.

According to this research, only about 4% of Americans have had plastic surgery. I wouldn’t call that common.

There has been a rise in children declaring themselves GNC, I think by one research 21% say they are (GNC is not trans, and includes bi, curious. Trans is a subset of GNC, more likely 1% of the population)

We’re a generation away from trans becoming truly acceptable IMO, and that’s only if we can keep this country in one piece without the clerical fascists coming into power.

Now you would know better than me, but my outside perspective (as a father with kids way too young for it to be relevant) is that a lot of that is probably reaction against the toxic, sexist, and often harmful cultural expectations of what it means to be a boy or a girl. Boys don’t cry, girls need to be into things like decorating and cooking not math and engineering, social status as defined by athleticism or certain beauty standards.

A girl who doesn’t want the long hair, bows, and pink and instead wants to play sports and study math, or a boy who is into fashion and has an effete body. They don’t fit the ‘traditional’ view, as understood through marketing and forced culture. I can see a lot of people identifying as GNC are doing so as a stance against that oppressive regime.

There is a lot of unquestioned assumptions about what gender means in this country, and I am fully behind people who choose to reject that and actually be who they decide to be, rather than try and force themselves into an ill fitting mold.

Ultimately- it’s fascism, and one of the defining things of fascism, particularly clerical fascism, is cultural cultural, especially around gender roles.

Fascism needs a hated enemy. Black folks are too numerous, Hispanic folks are being accepted (well, most Hispanic folks) as honorary whites (especially in Texas), and gay folks are now accepted broadly, so transfolk (and some immigrants) is the group they go after.

Ironically, Trump did more to further the issue of trans rights by making it something Dems supported reflexively, when they didn’t before. Biden’s also helped a good bit, despite much of the trans community thinking he hasn’t done enough/isn’t socialist enough. (there’s also a lack of understanding about what Biden can do in regards to state laws) This is kinda similar to how Obama normalized acceptance of homosexuality among the black population, who largely opposed it pre-Obama. Even Obama opposed it until Biden and Obama’s kids converted him.

That’s… nonsense. In most of the voting in Texas in my life there’s one polling center, you just say which party you declare for, and they had you a ticket / set up the electronic voting machine. This only happens (if true) because the polling precinct is set up to deny Democrats voting franchise.

What it does show is a the upwelling rejection from the bottom up of Democrats as a legitimate political party in GOP districts. Thanks Fox and Friends.

Maybe there is some podunk polling place in some deeply Trumpy town in Texas where the person in charge decided to commit a crime by denying Democrats a chance to cast their vote, but I confess I’m deeply skeptical that even a Texas Republican could be that stupid. But, yes, it’s possible.
