Sadly, the revolution he got was the Confederacy. The CSA saw itself as the second Revolution, and the true heirs to Jefferson’s vision. I’d agree the Founders would probably be baffled at our sticking with the original document so long, but whether they would want something more conservative or more liberal is a toss up perhaps.

It would probably depend on who caught up their ghosts on the intervening years. Fox News? ACLU? Facebook?

I’d like to think that, whatever their proclivities, the Founders would be smart enough (and empiricist enough; after all, they were children of the Enlightenment) to figure out what’s what. And with any luck go “oh shit, we really had that one wrong!” But maybe not :).

The left doesn’t see the need to engage in a culture war, because they are winning, period. On everything from gay rights, to the role of minorities, to racial justice, and drug laws, positions that would be considered radical 50 or 60 years ago are now mainstream. They are particularly prevalent in entertainment, e.g. the number of LGBTQ folks on TV shows. Other than abortion rights, everything is trending toward the liberal position. The right lacking cultural power has concentrated on obtaining political power at the local level, which is why we are seeing abortion restrictions and anti-gay laws.

Gotta spend her donators’ money somehow, might as well give it to the gaping maw of MAGA grifters.

Is the name of my Weird Al tribute band.

So the left gets mixed and gay couples on TV while the right re-writes the voting and abortion rules?

To be Devil’s Advocate, that’s mostly what should happen, per Christ’s teachings.
Matthew 6:1

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

That said, a large number of evangelicals don’t give a shit about poor people. Heck, a lot will resist helping poor people too much so they remain poor and the evangelicals can “help” them to get into heaven or some such nonsense. That was literally a talking point I’ve heard in my life.

Well, Calvinists are the worst, so I’m on board.

Don’t worry once they get to decide elections they’ll roll all the rest of that stuff back pretty quick.

The brutal truth is that a lot of the left (I’m looking at you, young people) care more about what’s on their TV than they do about voting.

“Research chemicals” are any chemicals synthesized in labs and labeled “for research purposes only - not for human consumption” to exploit a loophole to the Code of Federal Regulations. A lot of performance-enhancing and bodybuilding drugs are available that way, as are psychoactive drugs including hallucinogens and amphetamines, erectile dysfunction drugs like seldenafil and tadalafil, etc. Of course, these drugs are not subject to the kind of testing that drugs approved for human consumption are, there’s no clinical studies backing up any particular dose, you’d have to measure the dose yourself, and you’re trusting labs you know nothing about if you take them.

So saying it wasn’t cocaine but research chems people were consuming isn’t much of a cover story, since distributing research chems for those purposes is illegal.

First research chems site turned up by a fresh Google includes “synthacaine”:

More on synthacaine from the exquisitely named “Legal High Labs,” another research chems site:

And here’s a journal article about a super genius who took some synthacaine:

And another:

So… Bath salts? The “cover” story is that the GOP folks were taking bath salts?

Well that’s not a felony per se, whereas cocaine . . .

I’m convinced that 90% of conservative voters vote the way they do because they don’t like what’s on TV.

I do think conservatives look at TV and see a world they don’t want to exist. And it verifies what their leaders tell them, whether it be their minister or a politician.

How would they know? They only freebase Fox News 24 hours a day.

I’m sure any minute now someone will explain that Perdue just didn’t know what it meant. He thought it signaled economic anxiety.

I mean, he’s standing in front of the White Power bus.

The way he’s got his wrist twisted my thought is more “that’s NOT how you do The Shocker”.
