That is a good question to which there is a long technical answer, but in reality, it’s b/c Garland is a severe disappointment. Even if Garland eventually indicts Trump (I’m not holding my breath) his passivity and tolerance of partisan corruption by Trump/Barr legacies has already weakened the DOJ in a substantial way. He may still do some good but as of now, he’s been an extremely ineffective AG in regard to the most important issues. I’m saddened; I expected better.

Seriously, there is cautious and then there is paralyzed by analysis which is the most charitable explanation I can give for Garland’s inaction.

*Actually, that’s lie what I said is that even if Mitch held a hearing he was too liberal for Rs to put on the bench.

IIRC Garland wasn’t any liberals’ first choice. He was supposed to be the Obama pick who would be acceptable to Senate Republicans… because they’d earlier said he be acceptable.

The actual arrest and reason for the arrest isn’t enough for the GOP to either distance themselves from him or GOP voters to not pull the lever.

But if you look at the transcript from his arrest at the 1:20 mark, he tells the officer what he was watching at the time. That is a step too far for most of the GOP.

Not if his opponent has any budget to hit him with attack ads on this. Or heck, even the savvy to give a few interviews to express concern about the youth of Maricopa county. He’s toast. This is exactly the sort of scandal that sinks a local candidacy.

I think this guy is a clown and has personal problems that he obviously needs to address, but as a first-time candidate for a forgettable county-level office he’s not a career politico and this isn’t reflective of the GOP institutionally.
