That’s literally my favorite moment in the entire series.

It’s the best moment in the entire series!
You might consider joining the MS marines.
There was a good npr show where they interviewed these guys.
This american life, of course!

It seems the paradigm has shifted a bit.
I think people with a slower forum checking schedule tend to like likes. Re: polls, re: Rich
I think we need a shit bonerz button.
Oh, haha I actually meant your polls from before.
Looks like you’re having fun at MegaCon though! :)
Crazy thread.
Definitely vote against having likes. They have their purpose in very large social media forums or contexts, as a defacto way of filtering out the volume of static – but in a small, moderated forum like this, they definitely have negative consequences and reward derision, cliques and exclusion more frequently than they laud legitimately eloquent or thoughtful posts.

Thanks for that. I am a Gilmore Girls fan. I listened to the audio and loved hearing that these Marines were fans too. Nice that Palladino sent them jackets.
Thanks for linking it! :)

It’s true. We met on Prodigy.
You know what? I’ve been generally pro-LIKE, but I’m recanting that stance.
I like what LIKEs bring to the forum in terms of an easy way to give high-fives and attaboys and whatnot, and how they reinforce positive contributions. Good stuff!
But the pile-on situation is real, as is the reddit effect of encouraging lulz at the expense of more constructive participation.
My solution, which @wumpus will no doubt hate, is to keep LIKEs but make 'em private. You can see your own LIKEs, but otherwise they’re hidden.
I AM A GENIUS YOU ARE ALL WELCOME.
I suggested that too. Why do likes need to be seen by others? The like is important to the person giving it and the person receiving it, but others don’t need to see it.
What if I’m a like slut AND an exhibitionist?! WHAT THEN, HUH?!
