Does it really help? I’d be fearful of people boozed up arguing about politics.

Maybe they don’t want to be cut off from that $120/bottle scotch I serve at thanksgiving, and they’re a little more respectful of our “no politics” holidays.

With the exception of 1 explosive year, it’s worked out for the last 10 years.

I should do this. Just across the state line into SC there is a wonderful place to shop for booze for those looking to avoid the higher price and tax and usually worse selection in NC.

Hey, if an extra bottle of something you really wanted falls into your cart, sometimes that happens.

This is why you guys should have retired from the military. :-) Tax free alcohol at your closet base. Usually a pretty good selection as well. In Washington State the tax on hard alcohol is prohibitively high, so I won’t buy it in a regular store. It adds up to something like 40%.

Of course I quit drinking, at least for now, so I am just following this thread to live through you guys.

Holy crap! Next time I’m in MA im coming to your house!

I am now drunk. But I’m going to the haiku thread.

Some will follow you
To the thread with the haikus
Snow in tufted grass

I have yet to have a drink tonight but I’m currently chilling some simple syrup and making some big cubes of ice.

Old Fashioneds for anyone interested this evening.

An old fashioned is
A balm to the spirit, and
A damn tasty drink

Bourbon in the glass
Bitters, peel, and syrup too
Swirl it and drink up

Just had one. 4 Roses regular, slice of orange and cherry muddled, and I forgot the bitters. So not quite the Old Fashioned. I need bitters!

Would you believe that there are bars with great liquor selections that don’t have bitters? I’ve experienced it several times. Time to carry a bottle with me I guess.

I only have two types. I’ve been to some craft cocktail places with like a half dozen types of simple syrups and a dozen bitters. It’s pretty awesome to run across that. I wouldn’t even know what to look for in better bitters.

Typically I take my cherry on the side, I’m good with just the orange peel. I like em really bitter.

I nearly forgot. Last year I threw a sprig of rosemary in the simple syrup right after removing it from heat and until it cooled down. Drinks with that stuff tasted divine.

Big cubes aren’t frozen yet, of course. I broke the golden rule of being prepared. Who ever is though?

That’s so weird. The bars I go to make their own bitters/shrubs (as well as carrying a dizzy array of such items.). That said, I’m competent (and well stocked enough) that I usually go to bars to get something I can’t make at home.

That looks really good! I’ve been drinking Manhattan and Negroni variants lately. In particular black manhattans (sub averna for vermouth) and Boulevardier (sub the gin for rye). Oh, and bitter giuseppes (cynar, vermouth, lemon, salt). For some reason I really like cynar straight up, so I’m sipping some out of a whiskey glass right now while I wrap up some work to end the day.

Never had some of these variants. I order Manhattans sparingly though. I like the flavors mentioned in the bitter guiseppe.

I had both a smoked old fashioned and one with a local chocolate bourbon offset with orange and pepper bitters. The smoked one was fantastic, the other was good but a one-and-done.

Not drunk but thought I’d check in. We need an app or something. Tonight the missus is making brownies and watching a Grace and Frankie marathon and I’m stuck over here at the PC wondering what to play. So, an IPA is in order. Cheers to you all, wherever you may be.

Not drunk either, but enjoying some Bale Breaker Topcutter IPA (Washington brewery) and playing Gemcraft. When I got out of the military 5 years ago I wasn’t working or going to school and spent hours playing the last Steam version of the game while drinking way too much beer. So now it brings back fond memories of those days. Less beer nowadays. A nice relaxing Saturday night.

Same here on a relaxing Saturday night. I had a work item I had to take care of but I’m still just meandering reddit instead of playing a game. This is prime game time. I have this strange deal the older I get in that I can’t find anything I want to settle on to play because I’m afraid of committing to a short session of what would probably be a long game of something I pick. I dunno how to describe it really. It’s front and center one of the reasons why I have a HUGE gaming backlog and a ton of games with like, an hour played. :(

How’s the Topcutter?
