1,5 weeks into corona isolation, I took the initiative to organize an online Friday bar at work on Teams. I opted for a large bottle of Belgian Tripple Karmeliet… So now I am i a hole, digging… ;-)

I am now officially drunk. I was not drunk earlier. Then I had a couple and I was buzzed. Then I smoked a bit of the green. Then I got as hungry as fuck. So I heated up a frozen pizza. It was a terrible scene. That pizza had no fucking chance. Jesus!

Then I went to bed. But the wife isn’t home, so I am unable to sleep.

Eventually I got up to come here, and drink a bit more.

Sorry about the stupid and gross earlier post.

You’re drunk AND high yet you can’t sleep?!

Must be your super power.

I had to put most of my team on a two days a week schedule (with commensurate 60% salary reduction) this week. A good chunk of the company (well, corporate, anyways) got fully furloughed, so it could have been worse, but I still feel guilty AF since I’m not getting any reduction at all.

(There’s a sweet spot in upper-middle management between the top execs that are taking 20-80% salary reductions and the broader part of the company getting hit hard. I think because all of the directors and senior managers are going to be the ones doing most of the actual work for the next eight weeks, so they didn’t want to make not-working a better choice.)

I got to the “managing others” level after the last recession, so this is the first time I’ve had to do a layoff or reduction that actually felt shitty. (Firing idiots who go out of their way to make it feel okay to fire them does not reach that level, at least for me.) It feels shitty! In any case, I am drinking some Kavalan Bourbon Cask that’s right around 60% ABV and knocking me on my ass. Delicious but a bit harsh on the back end. Happy quarantine Saturday, everyone.

Drinking my favorite IPA, Bale Breaker’s Topcutter, while listening to some classic David Bowie. Although I love working from home, it’s been a stressful week and it’s nice to just relax, drink beer, and not think about anything. Think I am going to attempt to get into Fire Emblem on the Switch.

I love this guy. He had a band that played at Kenny’s back in the day.

I was just going through some old MST3K videos and found myself in a funny situation. I always thought the opening song was pretty catchy but I realized that the following lines made me actually bust out with laughter:

'He did a good job cleaning up the place
but his bosses didn’t like him so they shot him into space"

It just struck me as absolutely hilarious and perfectly phrased. Yeah I know, dive you’re drunk, go home. But oh wait, I’m home. I’ve been home for weeks. Will probably be home for months. Now I has a sad.

Checking in 🍻

This seems appropriate to link then considering reminiscing about MST 3K:

…I don’t know the correct salutations for this thread as it’s my 1st time here and probably long overdue…but Hello, I’m Shane, I’m in NY, I’m self quarantining, and I’ve had a few happy drinks. Listening to awesome (to me) songs, which is par for the course.

I live here even though you might have never heard from me. I rely on this site, and I have for a very long time.

Yup, you found it, now what were you drinking there? :D

It looks like it was removed from the other thread. Sapphire gin, Malibu rum, toasted coconut seltzer, raspberry lemonade crystal light, and ice.

The weather is getting warmer. It’s a high octane, low carb alternative to the normal choices.

And I know that Malibu isn’t keto but lower carb than beer and juice and other additions in moderation

You did read all of the other threads title, didn’t you?

What’s with the carbs, it’s not like anything with alcohol in it is good for you. Alcohol is a form of sugar, and makes your liver swell.

I’m not going to delve too far into this one…but clear alcohols, typically, to my understanding (gin, vodka, hell even crowne, have lower sugar, therefore lower carbs. Not saying Zero carbs, just lower carbs

But you are poisoning your body, why worry about a carb or two?

“Pure” alcohols like vodka, rum, tequila, whiskey, etc. have zero carbs. As a type 2 diabetic, this is important. They still have calories, but that’s ok.

Sadly Malibu, being flavored, has around 10 carbs per serving. About the same as a beer, though, you’re getting more alcohol per carb.

I’ve put a fair amount of effort into this. ;)

So instead of beer, I should be drinking Gibsons to cut back on the carbs? Thanks for the advice doc.

Yes.

I love bourbon and rye. But that’s now only an occasional thing. My regular is vodka and club soda.
