Same here. Two beers and three fantastic homemade tacos and it’s a different night now.
Is your reference the joke:
I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to too.
Because I love that fucking joke. I’m so glad I dragged myself out to a live show of his before he died. I never, ever go to live shit but just needed to see him.
Yep, no more, no less, just right
I think Bigfoot is blurry. That’s the problem.
There’s a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he’s fuzzy, get out of here.
I think a burrito is a sleeping bag for ground beef.
A perfect martini, 1/2 a bottle of champagne, and I’m feeling fine. Time for bourbon.
@RichVR, what you drinking tonight?

gimlet
it’s like the perfect drink. Here’s your ratio 4:2:1. Alcohol: sour: sweet.
tequila: lime: agave syrup
so good.

A Gimlet is made with gin, damnit.

suck it. tequila works just fine.
[drink names mean very particular things, and if you have a variant, then it usually has it’s own name.]

Like it’s called a Vodka martini. A real martini is made with gin, so if someone says “Would you like a martini?”, I assume it’s made with gin. Being old and slightly British, I feel like I need to defend gin’s greatness. (Yes, I am completely talking out of my ass and only slightly serious.)
Unfortunately, this post made while 100% sober.

Firstly, sir, this is the “I’m drunk” thread, and I was, in fact, quite spirited at the time. I most certainly would not go into any establishment and order a gimlet and expect it to be made with tequila. I would also suggest that I was using a colloquialism that is more familiar here to the west coast as opposed to you gentlemen of the east.
Secondly, the article you linked is, how would you say it? Well, certainly it is not peer reviewed. I can indeed attest to the fact that I was introduced to tequila gimlets in 2010 by my boss, a distinguished older gentlemen who had spent significant time in the Orient. The person who wrote the article claims they created this ‘giblet’ in 2017. Perhaps they created that horrible moniker hoping in vain to achieve for themselves a mark of distinction in this otherwise leaden age. I certainly won’t be referring to this delightful cocktail as a giblet, and I would look down upon those that did.

People like to say, language evolves get with it old man, when I say I dislike words like yeet and bae. So I will say, cocktails evolve, get with it.

But lets say you walk into a bar you have never been to before and order a Gimlet. What would you get?
(After the 22 year old bartender looks online to see what a Gimlet is because they have only had a customer order it once, and it was an 80 year old couple who came in last year. I always have to explain what a Gibson is when I order one, and one bartender told me the above once.)

Any decent bar will have a recipe book. OTOH when I made martinis I would always make them dry. I mean, really dry. Occasionally, but rarely, people would ask where the Vermouth was. I would remake the drink at no charge. What I learned was that most people who ask for a martini do not know what they are supposed to taste like.

My favorite bartender would make just wet the glass with Vermouth and then add gin for my Gibson. Best way. Too many bartenders assume a Gibson should be dirty, which is horrible.

Actually that was my method. Ice in the glass while shaking the rest. Yes, shaking. It gets colder that way. Then ice out of the glass. Then Vermouth in the glass, swirled to coat. Then the pour. Tiny fragments of ice in the glass?
Funny thing? I prefer a bit more Vermouth than that.

Depends on the gin. Well drinks? Yeah, give me more Vermouth. Beefeater, sure, make it wet. Hendrick’s? Make it extra dry.
I am partial to Bombay Sapphire, which I think is looked down upon by serious gin drinkers though.

See, this is what I consider a real drinker’s conversation. How many milligrams per deciliter is proper for a true Martini? Dear lord I could do this all night. :D
I am seriously laughing out loud for a bit here. Are or were you a bartender?
