I fuckin’ love a whiskey sour. Sometimes I’ll treat myself and add in some amaretto, too.
I tend to use rye and bourbon about equally – that Old Grandad Bonded is a hell of a value for a mixing spirit – but rye really just shines in certain preparations, and we loved it in the Cold Fashioned last night. I’m not looking forward to the shipping fees keeping us stocked on Mr. Black is gonna rack up (it’s still not available for sale at North Carolina’s shitty state-run ABC stores, so I gotta rely on Caskers/Astor Wines/etc. to feed the addiction).
I kinda thought of the last ward cocktail as a sophisticated take on the whiskey sour. It hits many of the same notes of sweet and sour, while being quite a bit more complex (thanks chartreuse!)
Somewhat buzzed at the moment, but also recently upgraded the stash:
Ugh I am so jealous! I wish I had space for a proper cabinet; my bar setup is. . . embarrassingly overcrowded :(
Ehh, it’s not much space. And it’s not like I can really fit a ton of bottles in there. But it’s a better use of the shelves than the dust and other random junk that was on them before :P
Hey @Eric_Majkut how is that Bombay Sapphire? I have been drinking Tanqueray Rangpur and I like it a lot.

I love gin, and Bombay Sapphire is vastly superior to anything by Tanqueray. Probably don’t listen to me though, I avoid Tanqueray. Just something about it I do not like.

I am of the same opinion as @LeeAbe. Bombay is my preferred gin, granted I’ve never gotten the really expensive stuff, and there is a pretty good local distillery that makes a good infused gin. So I usually get that now.
But Bombay is fantastic.
What these guys said ^^^
I’m not a gin expert, but I do like it better than other similarly priced brands. And the bottle looks nice on the shelf :P Hendricks is nice if you wanna go up a shelf.
Bombay sapphire is my go to, but Hendricks is nice in some drinks as well - I prefer it for gin martinis, but like sapphire for G&T and more general mixing.

You don’t need to say gin martini. If you say martini, it is assumed you mean gin. ;-)
I also am a big fan of Hendricks, as well as the local Conniption Gin brand. Beefeater is my go to “basic London Dry gin” for mixing, but my one experience with Bombay Sapphire was positive. I just have too much gin already and can’t afford space for another bottle…

Beefeater is more of a neutral gin. It’s fine, just kind of boring. They used to have a high end version that was better, but I don’t think they make it anymore. Perhaps it is Beefeater 24? (Never heard of it, but that’s what their website shows.)
Bombay tends to be ridiculously expensive in a bar, so I will get Beefeater as a “cheap” gin. It’s usually better than the well gin.
I will drink Tanqueray in a G&T, but not a martini. It’s fine with a bit of lime, but it’s too odd tasting for a martini.
Bombay is okay. Botanist is where it’s at.
I love all of the St. George gins. Really well balanced and lots of flavor. They also do a great absinthe.

About a month ago I decided to stop drinking until we had a new president.
Last week, in anticipation of this day, I bought some Pliny, Dragon’s Milk and Pranqster (i, naturally, didn’t know what i’d feel like and decided to cover the bases).
While it’s still a little early to start right now, i will say I’m looking forward to tonite! Cheers all!

Having a new president has made me psychic. I see Vizcaya rum in my immediate future.

And I was right! Batting 1000. Maybe 2000? Who knows? Biden is the fucking president! It’s the 20th. All bets are off.
I raise a glass. Will you join me?
More Champagne is in the fridge for exactly that purpose!
Wait, I thought Grant was the last president and that the US is actually owned by the city of London? Some Beefeater Gin to honor our London overlords?
