I am a college instructor. Two years ago I left teacher education to teach math at a community college. On a whim, I applied for a teacher ed job again. To my shock, I was offered it. I took it despite misgivings because some questions I asked weren’t given solid answers. I took it, honestly, due to location (Minnesota!) and salary (a significant salary bump). I went into the office for the first real time today. (I don’t officially start for a couple weeks.) It all hit me. The questions I asked? Yeah, the outcome is the worst possible one. I’ll be teaching elementary science methods. Science is by far my weakest core academic area (from English/language arts, history/social studies, math, science). Going through science materials, I realized just how far in over my head I am. Then, I discovered that they run their field experiences inanely. We are on semesters. They get classroom content only the first 9 weeks. They are placed in classrooms for the next 6 weeks and I “get” to be in those classrooms observing them apparently all day.
Edited to add: I’m also defending my dissertation in a week, and the background stress of that probably isn’t helping things for me right now.

Especially when I maybe make like 3 of em to kill a bottle of Beefeater to clear space on the bar. . .
