During the donkey show? You are way jaded man.
It’s dangerous to fall asleep at a donkey show. Or uh, so I’m told.
The first time acting in a donkey show was exciting but after a while it’s zzzzzzzz

I’ve believed for a while that Bodhi is the best beer made in Ohio. I bought the Utah for the name (I own an Ohio State #9 jersey) but it turned out pretty good, too. Lots of other beers from Land Grant, Jackie O’s and BrewDog were also consumed that didn’t make the picture.
And some board games were played badly.

We went to a baptism for our friends daughter on Saturday. They are Greek, and it was done in Greek tradition at a Greek Orthodox church they attend. What we did NOT know is that the, “small gathering,” afterward was more akin to a full on Greek party with fantastic catered Greek foods, a Greek band, dancing, drinking, shots WHILE dancing, etc. Of course, then we came home already buzzed and decided to partake at a bar that’s in our neighborhood. Yowza, Sunday was a tough day.
The best part was watching them do the Greek, “drunk man,” dance.

That sounds like a wonderful time!

It was. That same couple has promised us help going to Greece at some point. They have family and rental properties there so we want to work with them to line up a trip.
They are regulars at the bar my wife used to work at and we’ve become good friends since then.

That sounds WAY better than the Greek Orthodox wedding I attended about 20 years ago. Holy cow, what a snoozer. For all I know, the service is still happening.

Oh the service for the baptism was extremely long, to my uninitiated thoughts anyway. I didn’t track the time well but it felt like about 90 minutes. Meanwhile the 3 year-old girl was screaming about 1/2 way through and didn’t stop until the end. Maybe that is what made it feel so long. The service was mixed English and Greek with a lot of back and forth between the parents saying things, the godparents saying things, the priest saying and singing things, etc. In my humble opinion, WAAAAAAY too long for some kid getting dunked in water to have to wait through.
So I could guess the weddings are just as long.

Yup, I am Greek on my mom’s side and I don’t know if I’ve ever been to church for a baptism, wedding, or funeral that was under an hour and a half. That said, YMMV but my mother set an example very early that showing up half an hour (…or 45 minutes, or an hour) late and grabbing a seat at the back was not the end of the world for the event-only churchgoer. Catch the end, get over to the reception at the Olympia or the Athenian or the similarly named Greek restaurant of your choice, enjoy the party!

Kyrios, would you happen to know the name of the drunk man dance (or the song they do that to if it’s just one?) My wife and I want to learn it.

The only traditional dances I am really familiar with are the line/group dances (Syrtos), sorry, and even that is more just what to do when you inevitably get dragged into a line at an event. Wikipedia does appear to have a whole rabbit hole to go down of traditional dances that come from different regions.

I’ll email my friend then. It was very fun mostly just watching them dance. We did get up for a bit but it was during the snake-line around the room part, which sounds like the one you linked.
EDIT:
I found similar to it on YouTube. I won’t swear to it but I think the band was playing that very song. At any rate when I asked someone they just remarked, “drunk dance,” so I thought the lead old man doing it was drunk. But both men and women took turns getting up and doing the same style, each kind of meandering in slow and fast like a drunk person might. This one was at a wedding, maybe it’s more associated with wedding dances? Those watching were in a circle around the dancer on their knees and clapping to the slow beat. Sometimes they would face down when the dancer came near, almost reverent like. I was fascinated, it was like a show. And the old man that led it off got so many yells, whistles and screams, I’m supposing he was doing it with style but I have no idea.
