Going to Paloma route myself.
An excellent choice. Hell, we even have some Fresca that’s been stored for a bit. Hopefully they aren’t flat.
Tequila is vile stuff. I’m going to celebrate Cindo de Drinko with whiskey since it’s an American (mockery of a Mexican) holiday dangit!
You’re just gonna toss Mexican beer to the side as well? I see how it is, Tortilla.
In all seriousness, I don’t think it matters, whiskey is pretty popular south of the border. Hell it’s popular everywhere these days.
I know I shouldn’t be mean to tequila, but Jose Cuervo kicked my ass a few years back and I haven’t fully recovered. Vodka did the same thing to me once in college and I think it was a solid 15 years before I could admit to liking it again. By that measure tequila has a few years left before we reconcile.
I actually quite like several Mexican beers, but I’m in a hard liquor place tonight!
So say we all.
margarita with 1/2 oz chambord addition.
In an old Oberon pint glass because we’re keeping it easy to clean tonight.
This is probably the wrong place and I apologize, but i have a medical Marijuana card for RA, and i put WAY to much RSO on a cracker and now its stuck to my teeth and im higher than i ever have been. Wheeee!
Guess imma go lay down now.

We will certainly allow it. :)
Have a nice trip. We’ll see you when you get back.
BTW, consuming black pepper seems to sober some people up. And drink a lot of water. Snacks.
It’s still the right thread, we’ve been here before with it. I’ll second the water and snack recommendation. Also, a quick hot/cold shower helps when you overdo it. At least it does for me. That and a long nap full of crazy dreams.
BTW, someone gave me a Delta 8 / Delta 9 quasi-legal edible last weekend and … it was amazingly like a normal weed edible. Very slightly different effects, but for sure a body high and relaxed state.
@ScottyA I don’t mean to get personal, but RSO is famous for a reason. Just wondering if you’re okay? I hope so, or I hope you’re doing well treating whatever it might be.
I’m doing well, I take it for rheumatoid arthritis flares. Thank you for asking. <3 I’m sorta in-between treatment at the moment while I wait to see a new rheumatologist, and the flares are stupid intense with the weather change. RSO and medical use in general has been a godsend. It’s legitimately the best med I’ve found for acute as needed use. Rheumatoid arthritis sucks, I recommend not acquiring it.
This afternoon ended up being super fun. I zoned out and played video games next to my wife while she watched basketball. The perfect afternoon!
Glad to hear you’re doing well with treatment. I hesitated because RSO became famous for cancer, etc. Still, it’s near magical effects are why it’s a good thing.
I’ve never had it, but I’m assuming the zero to 100 effect of it can be a bit crazy. Rheumatoid arthritis runs in my wife’s family. I suspect at some point she might be in the same boat.
Mmmmm. Bourbon. Russell’s in this case. Good stuff.
So the question is, does a cheap bourbon mask the subtle flavors that you want from expensive soda? Is RC ok, or are you a cane sugar Pepsi snob?
edit: actually a Jones Vanilla Cola mixer sounds intriguing

If you’re mixing with something like cola, you’ll probably lose some of the subtle flavor notes that a good liquor will have, but there are likely other reasons why you might want to use good stuff.
Part of it is gonna be that low grade booze not only lacks some of the subtle flavors you want, but it may also have flavor faults that are NOT good, and that in some cases can be pretty strong to the extent that you might notice them even when paired with a high level of sweetness.
The other part is that I tend to find that I feel better after drinking good booze, compared to drinking cheap stuff. I’m sure some component of this is placebo, but I still feel like I’ve had nights of hard drinking where I was drinking top shelf stuff and then felt surprisingly good the next day, and I’ve had nights where more “responsible” levels of cheap booze left me feeling worse.
This discussion reminds me of the time I was at a family gathering, and my uncle (a notorious lush) turns to me, out of the blue, and says “you don’t know how to make a good gin and tonic”. He was, of course, drunk, but I played along- " ok, Tom, how do you make a good G&T?". Mind you, in those days I was making my own chinchona-bark syrup for homemade tonic water, so I really did want to hear what he had to say.
“the most important thing- absolutely necessary- the most important part, is that you use Schweppes tonic. The rest are too sweet”.
At that point I was like “what the fuck, seriously? You’re going to tell me the most important part of a Gin and Tonic is the motherfucking tonic? Yeah, I’m sure it is, when your gin is a handle of fucking Gordon’s or Gilbeys or whatever bottom-shelf swill you drink by the gallon- every little thing you can get to make it taste better is important.”. It was hilarious, my family still brings it up to this day. He was drunk, I doubt he remembers it.
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m a big believer in pretty much using whatever when cooking (with red wine or sherry or whatever)- so much else is generally going in there that it doesn’t much matter. But that, that was just nuts.

I am not disagreeing, because the brand of gin does make the biggest difference to me, but I have heard that argument before. And it always seems to be for Schweppes. Hard core G&T people really love the stuff. A decade ago I went looking for some just do I could see if it made a huge difference to me. It didn’t.
Being a G&T expert for decades :) I’m firmly in the Canada Dry tonic camp. Schweppes is good but for me a step below. We have Fever Tree which is a high priced tonic and I’m glad it didn’t wow me as I didn’t want to spend the $$$$. Avoid the no name brands for sure. As for gin I always have my staple Bombay Sapphire and buy different types to try. Hendricks is great but too expensive so it’s only an occasional treat. There is a gin from Quebec called Ungava that is yellow, very good and reasonably priced.
