Gonna have a cocktail, vodka and ginger ale… god I’d love a cigarette. I haven’t smoked in over 20 years and yet the urge still hits. When I quit smoking I told myself I would have a cigarette when I reached 90 or when I was diagnosed with an incurable illness - whichever came first. That is still the plan.

Well, not drunk yet, but just received some booze for the next few weeks- they’re great for camping/backyard season.

Wow I’d be all over that Boulevardier

Boulevardiers and negronis are fab.

I concur! Good stuff. Not sure I trust a boxed version, but that’s just me being snobby. There is no technical reason why they couldn’t be amazing.

For tonight, I started out with some sparkling chenin blanc from Broc Cellars (highly recommended, btw). Have proceeded from there to my old friend bourbon. Whistle Pig Old World, specifically. Yum.

They are both tasty- I was turned onto their stuff a year or two back. Basically, St. Agrestis is a hipster micro-distillery in Brooklyn that makes bitter aperitifs- think Campari, Cynar, etc. What’s in the bag-in-the-box is literally just their Amaro, vermouth (sweet or dry as appropriate), and either gin or bourbon from another small producer. No sugar/syrups, no watering them down, nothing else- it’s 24% abv in the box.

Especially good for camping, when you can just make a little dam and throw the bag in the river…

But even just at home it’s dangerous to have them around during the summertime.

Oh, I do love me my sparkling as well. I’ve recently started on French cremants which is my replacement for champagnes (looking towards retirement, need to scale back!).

I’m finishing up a bottle of barolo, and probably end the evening with a Courvoisier.

But also awesome! Speaking of, it’s time to stock up on things prior to the weekend. What to make … so many choices.

Haven’t had a Negroni in a long time. I may have to buy gin.

I opened a bottle of wine to go with my pasta tonight. Now it’s gone. I miss you.

Now you know that pasta calls for at least two bottles of wine.

Holidays after having kids are the worst. It’s either axe-murder my mother or explore the bounds of alcohol poisoning, no winning options. I could almost thank the pandemic for sparing me from a couple of years of it.

All of that said, things have calmed down a bit, back towards a reasonable level. We’re having a rye 4th of July: Willett, which is quite good. Cheers to America, inasmuch as we still (barely) have a functional country.

WW3;here in Pennsyltukey, but the beer is cold and the tunes are hot on the deck.

Considering that YouTube for some reason keeps your last search in the search window even when you’ve moved on, I observe that I am just as confused these days as I was thirty years ago.

After a few cocktails I am also confused. I raise a glass to all of the confused peeps. Every damn one of us.

I really like bourbon. Also rye.

Real time update: They like me, too. The bottle on the right side of the shelf is giving me the evil eye, though.

Heh, I used to drink to feel less confused. Still, sláinte! all the same.

oh wait it’s 8:30am. This is why you should never drink across timezones!

Not so sure that a single shot (the test case) would get anyone drunk/hungover, but it’s something…

I still swear by 20oz of water with a Nuun tablet prior to bed on nights where I know it’ll be bad. But any electrolyte heavy drink will work. Propel and Pedialyte are just as easy to find.
