It crossed my mind that maybe only us old and lame folks have seen the Wizard of Oz. Are they still showing it every Christmas?

It’s an ideal time to discuss its views on the merits of the Gold Standard.

Its not necessarily an age thing, but rather a cultural thing? I didn’t grow up in America and its never been on TV where I live, so I was only vaguely aware of the film. I think I read the book back in the early 80s, but I can’t remember anything of it anymore…

I recommend remedying that. It’s a classic for a reason. Even better if you have kids to watch it with.

My daughter is 10 and has seen it like 20 times so I don’t think it’s a generational thing.

Threw me off at first, if only because the second image is the logo for the Cincinnati Bengals but the realization came quickly enough. Pretty genius.

^ I love that exchange.

I’m not sure. But if I don’t get to watch March of the Wooden Soldiers every Thanksgiving I feel like it isn’t Thanksgiving.

My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is putting on Alice’s Restaurant at some point during the cooking.

I hadn’t seen Wizard of Oz until I watched it to prep for that James Franco movie. They’re both weird, clunky, and tedious, which makes sense for the original Wizard of Oz, since they made it from a time before anyone had invented how to make good movies. I think the original Wizard of Oz came out in 1902 or something like that.

Interesting fact: The prairie shots in The Wizard of Oz were actually filmed in North Dakota, because they could not find anywhere in Kansas that was bleak enough (or maybe it was South Dakota, as if there’s a difference).

The Wizard of Oz is currently in a limited edition theater re-release for its 75th anniversary… but now in 3d.

I’m going. Who’s with me?!?!?!

No re-release in my country… Have fun! Will try to catch it on Blu ray sometime!

3D and the Pink Floyd soundtrack?
