The Larry Sanders Show

They’re showing the entire run on Bravo but, naturally, with the majority of the funniest lines muted out, or just plain cut altogether. What, I ask you, is the F(BLEEP)ING point?

Actually, it’s still enjoyable. Just sad to have to miss some of Artie’s classic lines. Will somebody please get on the stick and release the rest of the seasons on DVD?

Even better, one of our local broadcast stations here in D/FW is showing them. At least, I did catch them late one Sunday night/Monday morning. I think they edited even more than Bravo. I enjoy watching the show, as there was many episodes I missed, but I agree with you: what’s the point if the episode ends up 20 minutes long due to ‘questionable material’ being edited?

I just wish they would put It’s Gary Shandling’s Show out on DVD, that show was great.

Why do US cable stations do this? I’ve never understood why there’s this need to censor content, even when the audience is explicitly paying for these shows. It’s not like you’re talking about a network, where the signal just goes out over the air for anyone to watch. Then again, I’m writing from Canada, where The Sopranos runs on network TV, uncut, at 10pm. We also get uncut shows like Larry Sanders, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Oz, etc. on regular cable networks like Showcase and Comedy. Comedy showed Larry Sanders every night at 9pm, no cuts, but with commercials popped in (which does suck, though not as bad as the edited crap that’s been syndicated in the US), for about three years. Miss it, but I think I’d seen every show a dozen times by the time they finally took it off.

And TMN here – Canada’s HBO – runs slightly edited (you can probably guess what gets cut out) hardcore porn on TMN3 pretty much every night. I see a lot of people around here with pirated DirectTV dishes, but there’s no way I’d give up Canadian TV. I’d be pirating a Bell ExpressVu dish from Canada if I were in the US. Oh, more time zones, too, and better channel shifting opportunities. Watch The Shield at five different times each week on five different channels! Etc.

Hey, I saw the first season of The Sopranos on Canadian broadcast TV (we get a couple of channels here). Uncensored, every boobie and every f***. 10 PM on Sunday night.

I lived in Denver in 1986-87 and one of the UHF stations used to air John Byner’s Bizaare uncut at midnight every weekday. It had loads of profanity and nudity, not sure how they got away with it but I’m glad they showed it…

I’m not sure how Byner got away with Bizarre, period. The guy should be serving a very long sentence in the real-life version of Oz for that godawful piece of crap (which CTV in Canada ran continuously for about a decade).

Happy 30th Birthday to The Larry Sanders Show! Premiered August 15, 1992.

As Garry Shandling said, it was “a show about people who love each other but show business gets in the way.”

Love it to death. Still in my all-time top 5. Maybe top 3.

Hey cool, it’s on HBO Max. I watched all of it on Bravo. I wonder if it will be just as funny without all the bleeping though? The censored language made it so hilarious.

Hey nowwwww.

One of my favorite shows, and such a clear inspiration for a lot of TV that followed it. So many great young (at the time) stars in it too.
