SlainteMhath:
The most insane part is that Ohio is reliably red, so there really is no reason for this other than sheer malice against lower income people, working people, disabled people, etc., combined with paying lip service to the election fraud lies the GOP is so fond of spreading.
That’s the part that immediately came to my mind. Why be so blatant about disenfranchising voters in a state that isn’t even in doubt? Is it about downballot races, or can they just not pass up an opportunity to be shitheads?
It’s not the focus of this post but that CNN page has passive voice levels usually reserved for cops

I suspect among their constituency it’s good politics, even if it’s effectively meaningless.
Monopolizing power in perpetuity at the local level leads to all sorts of graft opportunities.

Lol, just canceled my WaPo sub.
Welcome to the club! We should get hats.
Same. They are fast, free, and almost entirely factual. Very little spin put on the ball, unlike elsewhere.
Timely coincidence! An entire post and comment thread about alternatives by people that probably align with what y’all value:
In the comments of my post yesterday, someone asked for a thread on reliable news sources. Well, here you go. A couple that I follow that might be of interest to political junkies: The Down Ballot – this used to be the part of Daily Kos called...

Agreed, because they are actual journalists. It really illustrates how much ownership bias matters, because no matter how many dewy-eyed idealist journalism grads you hire, if there’s a layer of sycophant editing standing between them and the public, you get watered down spin.

For me they shit the bed when they hiked their rates and fired good people at the same time.

NPR, highlighting a disconnect between their headline writing and the ability to call a lie a lie.
This also highlights a disconnect between my wallet and their donation requests.
Oh this is great, thank you.

Highlighting the disconnect between Trump’s messaging and the reality of what happened.
You know, a lie.

404media looks pretty good from what I’ve seen so far.
Pro copy-editing tip, NYT: you can cut a word from this headline. It hasn’t been needed for at least eight years.

I will give the WaPo credit for running those articles but it is also true they could be truthfully and accurately running similar articles every day or at least multiple times a week. I am going to credit this as 1% of the WaPo’s obligation for honest reporting this year. Only 99% to go!
Good. If their front page looked like that with any regularity I’d still be a subscriber.
Oh there’s way more than 99% to go, they’re starting out in the deep negatives with all the harmful crap they’ve spewed over the past few months.
