Most of the middle of FL is quite prone to flooding. See all of those lakes in the center of the state? That is because there is no place for the water to go when it rains 10 or 20". I would rather be a few miles off the beach than in the center of FL during a storm like this. Which I am.

My hurricane shutters started going up today and will be done tomorrow. With those I should be able to take on even a direct impact (which is a distinct possibility) and unless a tree crashes through my roof we should be safe.

I hope so. I want to hear all of our Florida residents report in a few days that everything is fine. @Granath @arrendek @RichVR and all others, keep safe.

Pretty much. Screaming in terror isn’t going to make it any better.

Yeah, this is now developing into a worst-case scenario now.

That eastward drift is done. Irma now jigging back west.

Going to run right up the peninsula.

Welp, was nice knowing you Florida.

Apparently this is the ECMWF model.

Yikes.

Oh and for added enjoyment Jose looks like it’s going to turn north right at the Leeward Islands and hit north of or around Virginia, (if it survives as a storm that long).

If that happens, I can’t think of a more-perfect trifecta of god hammering the South. Maybe the Carolinas?

Shutting down reactors has begun.

As worrying as this is to me, I’m really worried about the folks to the south. Be safe everyone.

Jose has achieved Category 3 status.

Man…that Euro model has it at Cat 4 still about 100 miles inland in Florida.

Well I’ll be damned. It went west. Shows how much I know.

What’s scary is the northeast side has the highest winds. More people will get that now.

The models this AM all had it sliding eastward still…

…and then at noon the Euros showed that westward track. And the 5pm models confirmed.

VP relaxed regulations so that more fuel tankers can come here for gas stations. Governor has tankers being escorted by troopers. All hospitals in the Keys are being evacuated.

Edit: Voluntary evacuations of mobile homes just south of me. Governor warns west coasters not to be complacent and be prepared for evacuations. Gov speaking now.

It sucks the Euros put out forecasts less frequently. And they run so many trials it just looks like a giant blob.

Yup. The new track puts Miami in the NE quadrant, which is not good.

Grand Turk is going to get hammered. The eye going to pass south of it, so it’s going to encounter eyewall the whole time.

That’s why they’re more accurate. US runs 4-hour sims. Europe does 12. They also have more data to churn.

Wow, could you imagine if Irma wrecked Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville? That’s biblical levels of destruction.
