You guys are up to date on your federal taxes, right? We’re gonna need it!

It’s good but being shutdown doesn’t prevent major problems if they aren’t maintained during that time. All the Japanese reactors were ‘shutdown’ within minutes of the Tsunami warning.
I think it’s a Federal law that every reactor has to be reasonably high off the ground though, in the United States, significantly higher than Fukushima. I hope anyway.

Heh. I got a text from my dentist to remind me that I’m having my teeth extracted Monday. I replied that I would be busy having a hurricane Monday. No reply so it was probably automated. No fucking way will he even be open Monday, as much as the thought of getting teeth pulled and the power going out in the middle, sounds wonderful.
Stay safe Rich. I’m in Orlando now and not thrilled with the western turn the storm took in the 5 pm models. We aren’t going to get hit as hard as south Florida but this storm is no joke.

Better yet, no power at all.
“We’re gonna have to do this the old fashioned way.”

If I’m not mistaken, the European model has done a better job of predicting this storm.
My MIL is in North Miami. They are battening down the hatches.

He is doing it the old fashioned way. Multiple novocaine shots and pliers. The wife asked me if I caused the storm to delay my visit.
From my experience tracking winter storms in New England, the European Model does a better job with those as well.
The European model is making me sad though, since it has the storm rolling right over top of Orlando. Getting out now is going to present more danger than not (getting stranded in north Florida looking for gas) so now we are all weighing local shelter versus riding it out in the house. It could be far worse though, so I’ll suck it up and batten down the hatches for now.
Goddamn y’all keep safe down there
He’s a forecaster with the NHC.
Down to 165. Some signs of hope:
Having a whisky tonight thinking of ya, Rich. Stay safe, man.
Welp, that 12Z European model tells me that here in Orlando I should put the plywood up. Hopefully this doesn’t cause too much damage to this brand new house we bought and moved into 3 weeks ago.
One of the reasons we moved here was to be in a neighborhood instead of where our last house was (surrounded in trees without neighbors). Our neighbor 2 houses down in the couldesac has a heavy power diesel generator he said he’d let us hook up to as long as we have enough extension cord (I think we do). I wonder the chances of power going out but cable internet still working are.
Edit: Also just to add to the terror:
Good luck to all my fellow Floridians…

I don’t have much to add other than my thoughts and prayers are with you guys - Stay safe!
God either accidentally unlocked his phone in his pocket or left something on his keyboard.
Edit: Or a cat is messing with it!
Damage reports from the quake aren’t coming from areas near the epicenter, they’re coming from Mexico City, where people reported shaking, and there are some power outages.
Mexico City is 600 kilometers from the city nearest the quake…
