Crazy amounts of rain here in the DC area in a short amount of time.

That can’t be good.

It’s stupid hot… Pretty much everywhere in the Eastern half of North America.

Here the heat index is at around 105. Gonna be hotter tomorrow.

Then I don’t need a jacket! Thanks Arthur.

It’s 84 today. It’s so breezy for July it’s kind of insane.

Meanwhile, back east, my nephew’s Day Camp sent assurances home about how they’re handling the kids being outside. They’re being careful.

I went for my run early this morning to beat the heat. At 8:30 AM, the heat index was “only” 95.

Hyaaaaaaahyuckkkhaaaaaa

Gonna be the hottest day in three years here in DC and the 10th consecutive day of 90 degrees or greater.

Edit: Adding some historical perspective:

tl;dr: we’re all gonna die

Supposed to hit 34 C on Wednesday. May not sound like much, but it basically never gets that hot here, and we’re not set up for it. 30C maybe a couple days a year. The July average is 23.4. Very glad to have just bought a portable AC unit.

Thats only a bit above 90 degrees. Just turn a fan on really high. :P

I went to a concert in DC last night at a brewery. No AC in the “venue,” which was just the actual brewing area. The bands lost power several times due to overheating of their equipment. I sweated out my weight in water.

Good show, though.

We had heat indexes over 100 in Wisconsin (almost 110 some places nearby) and some of the city’s substations exploded. I’m not filled with confidence, but I’m glad I didn’t lose power right where I live and I hope the substation just down the street doesn’t burn.

I am going to be the jerk that says dry heat is better having just moved from Colorado to North Carolina. I used to enjoy being outside in the summer when high humidity was considered 25%. Running out here I am just drenched in sweat as opposed to having some sweat under the band of my cap.

Very true. I live in FL and it is only (ahem) 90 degrees as the high typically during the summer. But add in the 70% humidity and our heat index is 106 degrees. Shade does not help much because of the humidity makes the surrounding air a sauna.

90 degrees in Colorado is a dream compared to that especially if you can find a bit of shade.

Then again when the rest of the country is cold and wet I am running around in shorts and a tee shirt with daytime highs in the 70s.

I’m from Georgia, and spent much of my life in the South (GA, AL, VA, TN). I pretty much hate Florida. But after 22 years in norther Vermont, I can definitely see why folks up here head to the Sunshine State in February, when it’s -20 F and the snow is heaped up and nasty off-white or gray.

Latest Met Office forecast:

I’m in court covering a case on Thursday. Hope they have aircon.

The heat finally broke here in Kansas City. We had a thunderstorm on Saturday night, and so now the highs this week are in the low 80s instead of around 100 like it was all of last week. Phew. It is very pleasant today.

102 here in Salt Lake City, similar weather for tomorrow. We get a brief dip into the upper 90’s for a day or two then it’s back to triple digits. Yay.

Aaargh

If that holds, it would be the hottest ever UK temp.

I pretty much hate Georgia. It is FL without the good beaches.
