Michigan is having some real problems and this thread is probably one of the best collections of articles. Written / brought together by a climate author and meteorologist. Lots of great info and background.

That’s pretty frightening. Stay safe people.

Looks like Infrastructure Week is finally here.

It’s fine, everyone knows the structural strength and water resistance of hopes and prayers will hold back the flood waters.

Won’t it be spun as a Biblical sign that we need to completely reopen the economy?

p.s. Not just Michigan

I thought the flood we had in 2017 was bad, but this one has already passed the great flood of 1986 here (we moved here in 1991 so missed it). That was supposed to be a 100 year flood, lol. Guess not! We at 34.85 feet on the graph at latest recording and the 1986 flood was somewhere between 32-33, I believe. I live right in the City of Midland and about 2 miles from the river. We are just outside the evac zone so far.

Been busy checking on friends and offering support. Only a little water in the basement here so far and one of the evac gathering places they are still using is practically in our backyard, so believe we will be safe. This is going to be horrible for our community for a while.

I apologize if this is inappropriate but when I look at that image my eye keeps getting drawn to the town of ‘Bad Axe’ way up there. That’s gotta be one of the most awesome names for a town, maybe even better than ‘Bad Ass’ from Discworld.

Have you visited Hell? Michigan, that is. Just west of Ann Arbor.

Stay safe! Two damn failures and watching the water rush out of those lakes is devastating because all that water is going to go right through Midland. Way more than just rainfall.

I only know of Hell from an Atmosphere song.

Its a dump. Has a biker bar and a “rustic” furniture store. That’s about it.

One of the guys in my gaming group is from Bad Axe. We get a lot of mileage out of that whenever we play any game that involves an axe.

That’s got to be a nervous business being that close, @Kelan! Hope you’re able to stay mostly dry.

I hope nothing leaks out of the storage tanks!

Thanks, guys. We are good so far and should be out of the woods at our house. We were fortunate. Time to see what we can do to try to help people clean up and rebuild now as soon as the waters subside. Looks like we hit 35 ft as a peak and down to 32 now and falling. Seeing so many friends and neighbors post updates of their homes, businesses and neighborhoods is heartbreaking.

The more immediate danger is the retention ponds containing poisonous chemicals. At this point they are more like distribution ponds.

On Tuesday, Rajasthan’s Churu district recorded a maximum temperature of 50 C (122 F). Ravindra Sihag, a scientist at the Indian Meteorological Department, said it was the highest temperature recorded in the world for the day.

This weather royally sucks (Michigan). I can hardly breathe outside on the 90* days.

Yeah, it’s the least wonderful time of the year…

Where are you at Vin?

The Ohio Valley. It’s always like this in July - hot, humid, and full of pop-up storms. Drives my allergies berserk, too.
