Just finally broke down and started doing Instacart groceries + DoorDash deliveries for virtually all my food options in lieu of even pickups, eating the higher costs. Still WFH, don’t like being outside in general, much less during North Carolina’s hellish summers. I go out about once a week or so to take trash and recycling to the receptacles across the parking lot and make sure there isn’t anything worthwhile in the mailbox, and that’s about it.

I’m slowly going insane. Possibly related.

Hah, that’s me. Tonight is trash night, time for my weekly trek outside.

You’re not going insane if you haven’t shielded your windows with thermal tarps yet.

I have to let my dogs out a few times each day. Normally they go into the back yard and do their business.

Now the first time, they go out the back door, sniff the air and come back inside. Then I get looks like, dude I really have to pee. So I bring them outside again. They don’t like it. But they do it. And Gizmo stares at me like, THIS IS YOUR FAULT!

I’m convinced pets think we are weather wizards and control the elements, so if it’s too hot, too cold, raining, whatever, why don’t we fucking fix it for them already!

You are so right. Gizmo has to have his 6PM walkies. But during the rainy season here, it’s not always possible. I mean downpour. But he won’t leave me alone.

So I put on his small doggie harness and open the front door. And he runs out. Then he runs in between my legs. As I remove the leash he looks at me like, what the fuck? What are you doing?

Then five minutes later, I wanna go out, I wanna go out!

Dude, you literally open doors to other worlds. What is he supposed to think? ;)

I’m glad my doggos are rain tolerant. Now thunderstorms are a whole different story. I try to keep an eye on the weather and make sure I get them out when there’s no big booms, because they’ll flat out refuse to leave the house (or the under side of my desk) when it’s noisy outside.

Going to hit us in the mountains of Colorado. Ugh.

The fire or the snow?

Snow but we had ash raining from the fires the other day.

Today there is so much smoke in the air, with 50+mph gusts. I returned home from camping, and as soon asI hit Longview, WA visibility dropped to only a few miles, and the car smelled like a campfire. Apparently the winds are coming from the east, an odd occurrence on its own, and blowing smoke from the fires east of the cascades into the Portland metro.

The smoke in Western Washington is awful today

Probably due to the fire in the sky?

Crazy, Sunday up on Olympus I could see Seattle, Rainer, even all the way to the mountains behind Vancouver clearly.

Seattle from Hurricane Ridge Sunday

The Columbia by Longview yesterday evening

Yeah, when I went up to my bedroom last night it smelled like someone had lit a campfire up there, the strong winds the last couple of days have blown a lot of smoke into Seattle. Of course I couldn’t close the windows because it’s still pretty warm out, so I just had to deal with a couple moments of panic when I woke up wondering what was burning.
