Someone on reddit said their smoke alarms went off. Crazy.
It’s not so bad out here on the peninsula. Enough we closed the windows for the first time in ages though. I’m going outside in as bout to spray some weeds before the wind picks up

And this morning the air has cleared here in Portland. Just bizarre.
It sucks. 'm all about opening all my windows and having a window fan blow in fresh air while I work. And today is going to be the upper 70s outside, which makes it worse.

I had scheduled the day off a week or so ago because I desperately need the break and thought I’d have a nice relaxing day playing Crusader Kings 3. Then that jet stream smashed though with high winds and there’s 170,000 homes without power in my area. Trees ripped out if the ground and flung into power lines will do that, I guess.
Between having to be very careful with COVID and no power, it’s going out to be a really boring day.

It’s not too bad in downtown now. Just went for a walk around Pike Place Market and I barely noticed it.
Wind has definitely shifted. We just need some good ol’ regular offshore flow to blow this stuff away.

What’s bizarre about 40-50mph winds blowing smoke away?
I’m without power and have been since last night. Running on a generator as we speak. Wind = broken limbs = powerlines going kaput.

Ha nothing odd about the winds clearing things, I just didn’t expect to wake this morning to completely clear air!
Also that sucks about the power outage. We are lucky here, though my wife nearly had a tree fall on her car this morning while taking our son to his 18 month checkup. So that was fun.

Yesterday was really weird. Living in the country with trees all around us and it being very dry, to come out and smell all that smoke and not freak completely the fuck out was an accomplishment because mentally I’m thinking there is a fire really close and where the heck is it but intellectually I know the smoke is from hundreds of miles away.

Well, 12 hours past when the windstorm initially hit and we’re down from 170,000 homes in the area without power to… 167,000 homes without power. Gonna be a while, I’m guessing. Lived here for 40 years, I’ve never seen winds quite like that. Add it to the pandemic and the earthquake and everything else this year and my bingo card only has a giant meteor and a major war left. I can only assume it’s going to be a really crazy next three months!

yea, power back on. Still windy though and it’s going to get hotter over the next few days. And the smoke will be returning - in fact I smell a little bit now.

Breathing hurts so much today.
But at least our home isn’t in danger of the actual fires. The local ones are about 20 miles away from here in Blue River and Camp Creek area (Lane County Oregon).

What are you supposed to do if it gets that bad? It’s not anywhere near that bad in western WA, but I was wondering today what I could do. I don’t have real AC, just a rather large portable unit that cools my bedroom. Do you just have to live with it?
This week is going to hit mid 80s, so Windows will have to be open.

Pray for us. I am readying for potential evacuation. Mom’s house is gone. Cousin’s house is gone. Great Aunt and Uncle are MIA, Home Depot is about to go up as is one of our Wal-Marts. My family is here and we’re loading my car. I could be gone for quite some time.
There is also nowhere to go. Roads are closed or blocked. Never seen anything like it.

Nesrie, while I am glad to hear from you I am so very sorry that it’s in this situation. Please be safe. Take care.
Wow, that’s a rough situation. Best of luck, I hope the situation resolves itself as well as it can! Stay as safe as possible.

I’m just upstairs trying to get my brave face on so I can make it seem like we’re going to make it. I’ve got enough water, think we’ll need to ditch mom’s car. She’ll panic. Maybe I won’t.
If it gets here, that’s half the valley on fire, and I am on ready to leave status.

I’m not sure. I do have a powerful air filter, but while 2017 reminded me I need to re-seal my doors, 2020 is punishing me for never getting around to it.
My whole house central air isn’t helping, so I’ve turned it off. It will pull the air right in through every opening when on. We do have a portable air units for the heat, but it’s still quite bad inside. I’m thinking of rigging some sort of wet breathing mask and trying that out. Internet to the rescue.

Okay. Done. Gotta pretend like I have this under control.
