To be properly prepared I will need one pistol, one shotgun, a baseball bat, a machete, sharpened katana and a crowbar. I’ll pick up the bottles from abandoned recycle bins, and puncture gas tanks for fuel… will start carrying matches and lighters on my person at all times, can stick it under my sleeping cap at night.
I wasn’t aware you belonged to a militia either.
Don’t forget to have a couple of zombies chained to you.
The California wildfires are still burning, and Norcal is under high alert. Meanwhile, Washington has blue skies after a week of heavy rain.
I’m reminded of all the climate change forecasts that have the Pacific NW as being relatively unaffected by rising temps, while large sections of the southwest and southeast will be facing high temperatures and drought.
Unfortunately, it also means a lot more people flocking to Cascadia.

RogueWeather shared this last night:

OR is actually looking in pretty good shape based on the heat signatures there, aka red glows, indicating that a lot of if not all fires are not consider active anymore. CA… :-(.
God is really unhappy with the gulf coast this year
My brother was in town with his family for a few months, working from home here in Kansas City, instead of working from home at his house in Portland, Oregon. He flew back with his family yesterday. First thing he texted us after getting back to his house was that the air quality was still really bad. He said all those reports about it being okay now must be very relative to how bad it had been before. But compared to Kansas City, it was bad.

Portland was fine (not just relatively fine, but fine fine) until late last week when smoke started pouring in again from Nor Cal fires and there was a huge inversion layer keeping it all in nice and tight. That lifted today and the air is back to being normal.

Well several cities on the West Coast were the worst in the world, like literally no other place on the planet with people living there and the quality being measured was worse that that. So… there’s a big valley between that and it actually being good.
This was mom’s park. Another family that fled by foot. Warning, loss of pet triggers.
They call it the bear path not because if it is called Bear Creek Mobile Home, per say, but because there is or was a local visiting black bear there.
God seems to be permanently unhappy with the Gulf coast.

Yeah, we peaked locally at 136 ppm Friday morning. It was notably hazier, and there was a definite orange tinge to the barely visible Mt Hood by my house. And right now it is about 63ppm.
But while parts of Friday were noticeable, today it is barely registering. Nothing to stop a run, or other outdoor activity. Compared to where we were a few weeks ago, where it was 2 weeks solid where the lowest I saw was 250ppm, and usually in the 4-500 range? This was nothing.

You have no idea, as an Orlando resident, of the surprise and confusion as we watch storm after storm just pass us by.
As an also Orlando resident I find it a bit funny how my coworkers in Boston and the west coast think I live in some area with a Hurricane homing beacon when everyone I know in other states has gotten hit worse in the last decade than we have.
I’m just waiting for luck to run out and the eye of sauron focus on us though.

Hush. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Anybody on the Gulf Coast needs to pay attention. This thing is already a Cat 4:
The Yucatan Peninsula (Cancun) is going to get hammered by at least a 4, possibly a 5. The graphic above shows sustained winds of 115mph, but recent Hurricane Hunters have found winds exceeding that, hence the Cat 4.
It’s good sailing weather.

So apparently these are what the current… plan is for now. These individuals are in town and putting up Pallet Shelters.

Apparently these are popping up along the coast in areas hit by the fires.

Really? Hilarious. Good work.
So roomy! Borat would love it.
The 10x10 as a temporary measure isn’t what you’d want, but I appreciate that it’s at least something. I’m more interested in the idea of providing these to people who sleep rough to give them some dignity.
