I would if there was no one in front of me slowing me down.
Some people drive like they want to die. Can’t talk sense to 'em.
On a clear day with mostly empty lanes on roads flat for kilometers? Many. Drowsiness is scarier.
Europe is also a little stricter on what (and whom) they do and do not allow on their roads. Though some of that is due to environmentalism.
I’m used to worrying about cold and ice here in west Michigan, not high winds.

The power utility even sent out emails ahead of time, warning people that outages were likely.
I’m renting, but a tree fell on our neighbor’s garage and he’s going to sue my landlord.
I was actually looking out the window when I saw a second large branch fall but it missed the garage.
Landlord hasn’t been trimming/removing dead trees like he’s supposed to.

That’s going to be an expensive lesson perhaps. They should’ve just called an arborist.
At least here in Florida, if a tree on my property falls on your property I’m pretty sure I’m not legally liable, unless there’s been some real negligence. That happened to my neighbor who had to leave his BMW out during a hurricane and his neighbor’s tree fell on it.

Negligence is a tough call. It should mean, essentially, that you knew a tree was dead or rotted. But you ignored it. Tough proof.

Unless Florida is different, it’s pretty easy to spot a dead or dying tree. A couple of pictures could prove that. Since the beetle problem, the dead and dying trees are pretty prevalent and a lot of activity has happened here since the fires which is good because we’re also under wind advisory which is another way those trees become hazardous.

Heh. Florida may be a bit different. Not sure.
Looking it up but it doesn’t appear to be Florida specific. In order to have a case against the property the tree was standing on you’d have to prove that they knew the tree was unstable and a risk, and they neglected to take action against it.
Unsure how easy that is in reality.
Actually, the neighbor has been complaining for a few years and offered to pay 50% to cut them down. Landlord stopped answering his calls though.
That is the way it is in New York too. Basically no-fault.

I hope your neighbor was documenting and wins. Shitty, unresponsive landlords deserve their own circle of hell.

Iota has become the first official Cat 5 of the season and will hit Nicaragua tonight. It’s a monster and strengthening still, and this is more or less exactly the same location that Eta hit a bit ago. Only bright side is it’s hitting a sparsely populated area, provided Puerto Cabezas evacuates.
So odd that we’ve had so many strong storms and yet this is the first cat 5, and it’s at the end of the season.
Weather makes no sense.
We’re almost at Thanksgiving and we have a CAT 5?
Are there just not enough names that start with Theta or something?
