I do remember as a kid it felt like it took 30 minutes to un-layer just to go to the bathroom. As an adult, I just avoid cold. I say tropics all the way!

That’s what I do. I have a heavy winter coat that is great in zero degree winter. When it’s really cold out I wear that to get from my car to the grocery store or to take the dog out.

I really should get a better coat incase the west gets one of these winter vortexes. With curbside pickup, often not needed but you never know when you might need to get out and give someone a jump or save a kitty.

Once you make the initial investment in a really good cold weather coat, you’ll have it for years. I use mine maybe only a week or two every winter. I really appreciate it when it’s in the teens like it is now here. It is very warm and comfortable. I can be out for the cold for some time and not feel it. Look for something on clearance after winter is over.

I have a coat that has a dual layer construction. I can separate it into a fleece jacket and rain jacket, or combine for a winter coat. It’s great, especially since our here i never need the full winter coat unless I’m at high elevation.

I grew up where spending 20 dollars on a single item of clothing was the norm… and oh boy if you spent 50 it must be something good. It’s taken me years to get to break that habit and actually accept it’s possible to be in the cold and not be cold. I would just have to… make sure I get to the “quality” rack and not the fashion brand stuff that is expensive due to the label on it.

I should get a really good winter one though.

Beware of all enterprises which require new clothes.

Hah, yes. A few years back my parents suggested I get some proper shoes for my walks, and pushed me toward this $119 pair of New Balances, and I was just flabbergasted at the idea that shoes could cost that much. They helped pay, and in fairness, those shoes are stupidly comfortable.

I love my NBs as well. But I hate that they are considered Nazi symbols.

Hey I am happy that I grew up actually getting new clothes at all. We were JCP / Mervynns Mall sale kids but second hand stores were for fun, not a requirement. Today, I try to do better, but boy do I hate spending 100 bucks on something that doesn’t even outlast those 20 dollar sales.

You’re old and white, aren’t you? Checkmate.

Yeah, some of the running NBs are $150 new. I instead bought Reebok which are officially endorsed by official ANTIFA organization.

Wait what?

I guess you’re back on ignore now.

Wait I thought they were pedo shoes. Do we have two evil brands of shoes now?

I mean the overlap between crazy QAnon/far-right groups and crazy pedophiles has to be pretty significant, and I’m sure they like getting to wear the same uniform to both meetings.

My feet are almost perfectly flat, so early on I had to get used to paying actual money for decent shoes. They do make a difference.

I have an uncle who had a white collar job that required business dress shoes, with extra credit if they were clearly expensive. He noted that the ungodly sum he paid for two pairs in his 30s ended up being reasonably economical in the long run, since they lasted for practically his entire career.

This is a Venn diagram of the overlap between QAnon/far-right groups and crazy pedophiles:

My wife finally decided to fork out for NB with each support. She laments that they are expensive but admit they feel great.

So how much snow are we getting PNW people? I have heard from a couple of inches to a foot by Monday. I have an important appointment on Tuesday, so this needs to be over by then.
