Contrary to what @stusser thinks, the NE is not only NY. Looking at triple digits in the general area.

People who endure this kind of weather AND slap humidity on top of it have my sympathies. I’d say at least it’s a dry heat, but you know, that was before fires. My office is holding currently at 76F. This is tolerable. My mom is nuts for complaining about this. It’s better than I expected, still.

That’s the positive about this, the humidity has gone down. Only about 25% currently.

Like George Constanza wanting to be a Marine Biologist, I wish I’d become a Meteorologist. Weather fascinates me. We’ve been at 90+ in the Appalachians (I know, not nearly as bad as the West Coast) and 1/2 hour ago, the skies just opened up with a deluge lasting 20 minutes. Then, gone.
Everyone on the West Coast, please stay safe and I hope that your loved ones (including pets) are taking care.

The cat that reuses to come into the room with the AC continues to looks miserable. I put 1/4” of water in the bathtub to try to cool her pads. That went as well as as can be expected. I am bleeding now. Just one really deep scratch.
On a positive note, she is happily cleaning her paws now.

Well, of course. She’s got the taste for human blood now. Thought & prayers.
We’ll be at under 80 F by midnight in Portland, people! I can conceivably crack open my bedroom windows then!
I feel like The Pointer Sisters here.
Thankfully, every restaurant owner I know and respect in the Seattle area closed down for the day. One place I know of announced they were closing early yesterday because it was 130°F in their kitchen. I normally run my business from 8am-12pm, but I announced on Friday that I’d be closing at 10am on Sunday. Money is nice, but not at the expense of my employees’ (and my own) health.
As for me, I don’t want to rub it in, but this hasn’t been anything bad. I rent the bottom floor of a northern-exposure house, and the owner had the oil furnace replaced with a heat pump last winter. My place has been nice and cool, and when I want to hang outside, there’s the above ground swimming pool in the backyard that we set up a few weeks back. Yesterday it was registering 90°F at sundown, but still felt wonderful.

No wonder you are playing video games. All my consoles, TVs, and computers have been off since Saturday morning.
With fast food, I am guessing that the employees won’t be paid if they are closed, it’s a no win situation. Speaking of food, I really need to come and get donuts again soon.
3-4 more hours until I can open windows and this is mostly over. Side note, none of my neighbors seem to be aware of the concept of not opening your windows when it’s warmer outside than it is inside.

We’re back down to 94 again. This is what a normal summer should look like. I hope the rest of the week is like they said, just around triple digits, not well above it.
I, at least, paid my employee for a full day. I mean, whatever, it only cost me an extra $40 or something- it affects him more than it does me. I have no idea about the ‘real’ places.
We did donut ice cream sandwiches over the weekend, and will be doing them for the rest of the summer. It was fun, and I like to play.

Still 106 by me. I was just outside with the kids in their pool while I sat in the shade, and just instant sweat still.

That looks really good. I am jealous. Our fanciest donut place around here just changes toppings. It’s the same donut I don’t like for everything.
Yikes! yeah 94 can be comfortable in the right setting but 106… nope.
I touched my front door and it was warm.
It’s like Backdraft. “You check that door for heat?”
Also, I ventured out to put the garbage out, and today is noticeably drier and dustier than the previous two days.

One thing to keep in mind is that car’s actually tolerate high heat quite well, although over a hundred degrees is certainly not great for anything.
I know that the most important thing for cats in high heat is to make sure there is plenty of water for them to drink

They won’t drink. I have been putting water in front of them all day. They also aren’t eating. The little one who refuses to go in the AC cooled room is breathing extremely fast. Over 60 breaths per minute. She’s acting fine, but the internet tells me that is bad. I tried locking her in the cool room and you would have thought someone was trying to kill her. No idea what the deal is, she hangs out in that room with me all the time normally.
Apps are saying it’s cooling quickly, but in reality it’s still over 100 degrees out. My condo is now at 93.

Well it is cooling rapidly. Sun is down, a breeze is blowing, and it is now 89. Which at this point feels downright pleasant.
Given I normally get uncomfortable above 80, the fact 89 is refreshing is quite the thing!

It’s amazing what you’ll adapt do.
I was in Madison years ago, where the temperature was down to negative 40… when I got back to philly, 10 degrees felt like spring.
Hope the kitties are ok, lee. They probably are, but I know it’s nerve-racking when you think there might be something wrong.
No kidding. It’s down to around 83 outside right now in NoPo with a nice breeze. Since my ground floor was up to 89 with 60% humidity I opened the windows as soon as it was down to 90 outside because the humidity outside was at least 20% lower.
At this rate it might be down to the low 70s by midnight!!

App says it 89°. Weather station says it’s 95°. Weather station feels right. No breeze at all.
