It looks like all our forecasts have been downgraded, aka only Friday is triple digits.
On another note, it’s “interesting” trying to see cities cancel their fireworks displays, banning use of all fireworks in some city limits and others basically saying pfft, patriotism. I’m all for people having fun and all, but we’re going to light up like a torch from the fireworks, legal and illegal, already sold if only one idiot lets it get out of hand.

A storm just blew through and it went down to the 70s. Turned off all the window units and opened everything up. It’s glorious.

I’m still angry about the Eagle Creek fire that destroyed one of the best box canyons in the country. This mossy temperate rainforest hike with multiple waterfalls, and some jackass kids lit off fireworks and burned down half the Columbia river gorge, and shut down every trail by Multnomah falls.
They’ve just started opening those trails back 4 years later.
What did Lytton do to piss off God?
Fantastic question, more news on it here:
From the video it looks like there is a wildfire on the mountain nearby as well.
Winds of up to 71 kilometres an hour were pushing the fire north into the community as of 7 p.m. PT, according to CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe. She said the hot, dry and windy conditions in the area could mean the fire is moving at 10 or even 20 kilometres an hour.

That’s incredibly dangerous. I used to love a summer breeze myself, now I dread them. Wind is the worst ally to fires.
Firestorm level winds for sure. I hope everyone got out of the town okay.

After days of ridiculous weather with AC blasting and windows closed, I’m sitting on my back porch in a flannel and I’m chilly. Mother Nature is not to be fucked with.

We’re looking at or close to just hitting triple digits for the next 10 days. My city was too gutless to cut fireworks, but several of the neighboring ones have banned them. We’re very dry. Doesn’t matter if their aerial or not. It won’t take much of a spark to set something off.
Also we have smoke. I am unclear which fire exactly it is though. It could be the Lava fire near Weed. It could be the Tennat fire near, actually I don’t know what city that is near. There are a couple north of us too but the air is now officially unhealthy to be in.
Oregon? I’ve never figured out why Oregon towns love to have names that are just raw verbs and random nouns. Bend, Spray, Weed?

Haha. Weed is actually California, a very small town. It’s actually known for the wind, very strong wind.
If you think of where I live as like a bowl, on the south side of the bowl are mountains, and once you get over those mountains you’re in N. CA. Not northern California as in San Fran, but real N. CA. I’ve noticed a number of people from CA consider San Fran North but there is a huge chunk of land, not people mind you, between San Fran and the rest of the state before you hit OR.

Weed is technically California, right by Shasta.
But add Timber, Aloha, and Tangent to the list.

Aloha, which was actually supposed to be Aloah but messed up upon registration.
Go figure. Probably because all us Midwest and Eastern folks were settling back when there were a bunch of European and early-American names to get passed out, Every state has a Simpsonville and a Shelbyville and a Washington county.

Speaking of weed, this image is going around the local circles saying it is a Union Pacific track between Weed, CA and Klamath, OR, near the Lava fire.
courtesy of photographers Vince Kerr and Jerry Hill.
They say this is one of the last wooden trestles on the main line. Please note, I know very little about trains. The passenger trains don’t come here, and the cargo ones, when the tracks are opened and used, just sound like they’re in your living room when I lived on mom’s lost mobile even though it was probably about a mile away.

That’s a great picture, don’t suppose there is a high resolution version somewhere is there?

Not that I know of. Before I posted it, I tried to see if Google would help me find a different source than FB for it, just to make sure it wasn’t a repeat or a spoof or something, couldn’t find it. It really does look like someone just uploaded it for the community. If it gets enough attention, I am guessing more info will come out.
You can’t really just go out into the middle of a fire area like that, err well you’re not supposed to, and take pics, so maybe more info will come on it later.
The Lava fire is the one the crew left, believing it was basically out… it was not. They were so, so wrong. The apologies have yet to stop. They made a huge mistake.
