We got thunderstorms here in Michigan a couple weeks ago, knocked out power across a pretty wide swath of the state. But other than that, it’s pretty calm up in here. Just snow in the winter, but we know how to deal with that.
I have a buddy in Providence, fortunately in a solid house on high ground. He’s battening down the hatches and then basically waiting to see what needs to be done in the aftermath.
Stay safe!
Plus you are very close to Canada if you need to seek political asylum on short notice.

My poor niece. In early 2020, she was all set to move to Florence, Italy for a year to pursue a master’s degree. She got all moved out there, all set up, and then a week before classes started they shut down the school because of the COVID epidemic.
Disappointed, she decided to meet her family vacationing in Croatia before heading home together. While in Croatia, an earthquake struck Zagreb. Then Trump announced he was closing the border with Europe, not specifying whether that meant to everyone including American citizens or what. Panic, chaos, and disappointment, but at least she made it home okay.
Anyway, fast forward a year. Florence plans abandoned, she decides to pursue a master’s degree here in the US. After making her choice of school she got all moved out this week and was all prepared to start classes this fall. She just arrived at her new place in Boston late Thursday and I can’t say she was entirely thrilled to hear me mention that a hurricane was heading her way.
That poor girl is cursed!
Perhaps she raised the ire of a tempestarii.

Haha, it must be. I did tell her that I still loved her, even if she was secretly the anti-Christ or something like that. She just needed to give me fair warning before stopping by my house for a visit!

Give me warning if she ever comes to Portland so I can make sure not to be on Mt Hood that day.

As has been pointed out many times, there are far more Trump fans in California than in several midwest states combined, by number. It’s just that if you move here you might have to gasp interact with someone who disagrees with you!
Can sewage overflow in the USA get into drinking water supply?

I suppose that depends upon where you are. Depending on the water table and if people are using well water rather than reservoir water that’s piped in… maybe?
I’m in NYC. Wondering if say the sewers overflow upstate and then the water pumps or water treatment fails because there’s no electricity?
I guess I’ll go fill up water.

Well, I’d stock up on a case of water or two. But NYC water comes from way upstate.
New York City gets its drinking water from 19 reservoirs and three controlled lakes spread across a nearly 2,000-square-mile watershed. The watershed is located upstate in portions of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains that are as far as 125 miles north of the City.

Who needs water upstate? NYC is smashing records for rainfall tonight! The most rain ever recorded in a single hour just happened. 4 to 6 inches in some areas in just a few hours.

Send some to the west coast please

Sewage overflows seem a bit more frequent on the east coast. Mainly due to aged infrastructure or some places that still have a combined storm/sanitary sewer. However, the overflows are into surface water that would still go through the water treatment process. If there is no power, the water treatment plant wouldn’t be delivering water to the system and relying on treated water stored in tanks.
We haven’t gotten a drop in Albany yet, looks like it all went east of us.

The drizzle this morning was mocking us.

Yeah, I barely felt some sprinkles. Just light enough to make me wonder if I felt anything at all.

It took me about 5 minutes on my run to realize it wasn’t just humid air.
It finally started raining here around 2:30, and it has been pouring ever since. Fortunately I live at the top of a very long hill.
