Water through the ceiling here in multiple places. Depressed.

Power out for about 3 hours here, even though it just seems like normal heavy rain.
Oh man I went through some water infiltration when I was getting my roof done last year and I feel your pain. Sorry you’re going through that. :(

Damn that sucks man. Sorry to hear it.
Anyone in Tennessee? Because apparently 22 people died in a flood, with dozens more missing.
It started raining here in western CT on Saturday night and hasn’t really stopped yet but it hasn’t been heavy for more than 20 minutes at a time. Mostly just persistent middling rain. Almost like being home in England.
Of course, just because the storm took a right turn and missed me almost entirely doesn’t mean it vanished. Some other areas of NE are getting dunked on pretty hard.
Sorry to hear that. My last house had a chronically leaky roof and it was the most horrible thing to deal with.
Not sure how much we got total yesterday, but it started again around noon today and forecast says over 2 inches before it stops late tonight. it is pouring pretty heavily right now.
I’m a few miles outside Boston and for us this is a hurrican’t. It’s beautiful outside with plenty of blue sky. Somehow the storm is wrapping around us instead of smashing straight through.

Tornado sirens are fun, right?

We need to fire our sheriff deputies or whoever kept turning them on and off again.

Yeah, I warned a coworker this morning to get his kid out of NO immediately before a shit show began. It was looking perhaps-serious last night (cat 2) but the data from this morning showed unusual acceleration and perfect strengthening conditions in the future. The storm wonks were having a “whoa!” moment on Reddit.
Long story short, there’s always a 12 hour lag between an unexpected change and the official recommendation changing.
It looks ugly. Hopefully it doesn’t shift eastward

God I hope that doesn’t turn east. We’re due at the Outer Banks from tomorrow until the next Saturday. God help us if that turns. I will be a very, very upset vacationer. Sorry if that sounds flippant, I don’t mean it to be, but yeah, where on earth did that storm pop up from so quickly.
It’s extremely likely that happens (edit: after landfall), but it would be a question of how sharply. Looking at the spaghetti model, there’s probably a high pressure cell coming in and the speed it moves could dictate where it ends up. If I had to guess, I’d think you might have a better idea by Wednesday or so. Keep a close eye on things in leave a day or two early if you need to.

You mean NC? No chance of that. The main steering feature is an enormous pressure system over FL and the Carolinas and it has the size and stability to be very predictable. Unless you’re talking about days later, you might get a bunch of rain, yeah.
Bad news is that same pressure system is keeping it on a rail pointed straight at New Orleans, if it misses it won’t be by much. The real question is how much stronger it gets.
Highly unlikely that it will turn east before landfall. There’s a high pressure system just off the NC coast that’s steering Ida to the NW. She’s headed for Louisiana, and will be a major storm at landfall.
I pay close attention to this guy (Levi Cowan, TropicalTidbits.com) - he knows his shit, and does an excellent job of explaining all the intricacies of a developing storm:

Shhh, I was getting to sound smart by repeating what Levi says . . .
He’s excellent, and the TropicalWeather subreddit is actually really good, too.

Great info, thanks for the tips from you all. I mean, it’s the coast and we’re in storm season, we’re ready to bail if needed, but still, this was projected to be a clear week.
