I just heard a little while ago that one of my cousins was driving back to the city on the Hutch and got caught in the flood. They had to be rescued out of their car from waist high water.
The shots of flooding on the news all over NY, NJ and PA are insane.

And across the galaxy a million newscasters’ cries rang out, and were silenced, as they realized they would have to figure out how to say “Schuylkill.”
I always was told “Skookull” when I was in Philly for a month.
Yeah. I work with a bunch of skooks and lived around the river my entire life so it’s never been an issue, but man does it get butchered.
Just in case people wondered if it only felt like things were getting worse;

And even as someone in one of the spots that’s pretty close to normal rainfall over that period, we got all of our rain in about a 2 week span. Beyond that we’ve been so very dry that I can clearly see it affecting trees. Small potatoes compared to all of the disaster areas, but also not normal or good.

Yeah, drought will do that to potatoes.
We got hit fairly hard by the Ida flash flooding (Westchester County, NY). Reports are that our town was among the worst hit in the area / state. Our basement + garage were entirely flooded (probably ~6 ft of water), which meant pretty much everything was soaked and destroyed. We’ll need to replace our furnace, water heater, and some other appliances, as well as ripping out and replacing all the drywall. Still waiting on inspection to make sure the electricity is safe to turn on.
Our basement was mostly storage. Lots of clothes and books, which are trash now. Sadly, the storage included the bulk of my game collection, which were in waterproof containers prepping for ~6 inches of water, rather than 6 ft. There wasn’t much that was particularly valuable down there, but all the paper is done, so I guess I’ll be converting the collection from complete-in-box to disc-only. A bunch of retro consoles, but maybe I’ll just pivot to being a MiSTer guy now.
All in all, it could have been much worse. There are many people in our town who lost not just their basement, but their entire first floor / house. Everybody in our family is safe at least, and we had our car on high ground. Family and neighbors have generally been supportive and helpful. FEMA assistance seems to be on the way.
A friend of mine said that she considers it a parting gift from Trump, who sort of mysteriously killed an Army Corps of Engineers project to do a massive flood mitigation project that was already paid for that almost certainly would have reduced or eliminated this flooding. One of those “the cruelty is the point” things, I guess. A lot of noise has been made about re-approving the project now.
We were also pretty much ground zero for early Covid, so…hasn’t been a great couple of years.
Oh, man! Sorry to hear that, CL.
Sounds like you’ve got a good, accepting attitude and already found the silver linings. Good luck getting through the hassle.

Ouch. I’m really sorry to hear that.
Oof. That’s tough, but things can be replaced. Glad you and your loved ones are ok.

Sorry to hear that. My colleague lives in Mamoroneck but was luckily not in the flood zone. He saw the mess the morning after, it was really bad. He is also a big Trump supporter, i will show him the article but I’m sure he will dismiss it as fake news.

A friend of ours moved to Mamaroneck just days before the flood occurred. The technical term for that is bad timing.

In a nice change from the summer wildfires the sierras have gotten a few dustings of early snow at elevation.
That was this morning. Sadly it has already disappeared where the sun can get at it.

I don’t know, the weather apps are making it look like it’s just going to be wet, but otherwise pretty boring.
Saw one forecast of up to 8 feet of snow in the southern cascade northern sierra nevadas
At the moment, we’ll take wet.

The forecast for my area near Reno is showing two and a quarter inches of rain on Sunday. In the high desert. Normally this area gets around seven to nine inches of rain in a year.
We do need it. Lake Tahoe fell below the natural rim in recent days. It’s no longer feeding into the truckee river.

Been a very rainy October (by Utah standards) here as well, thank goodness. Fingers crossed we get some of that storm hitting you. Forecast for Monday and Tuesday looks like some rain, so hopefully that’s the case!
