It was the name of a left wing terrorist organization (well it was labeled as such by the FBI, I confess I don’t know enough to know if it was warranted or whatever).

They did commit a bunch of bombings and four of their members were involved in a notorious robbery that killed two cops and a security guard.

Sounds like terror to me. All I knew was:

  1. they existed
  2. they were labeled as terrorists by FBI
  3. the fbi has a history of abusing those sorts of labels

So I wanted to add the disclaimer. I didn’t live through that group’s timeframe.

I did. To my youthful hippie mind they were patriots. The good guys. My views changed as I grew older. Now it’s just embarrassing.

My definition of terrorism is “using indiscriminate violence for political purposes”, so yes, they were. (And I’m lefty-left, fwiw.)

It’s just so strange to me that they went with that name for what is a pretty mundane weather site. And AFAICT they don’t even acknowledge it? It’s just… weird.

Gulp

I’m confused on the difference between the top and bottom one.

Top is actual temperature
Bottom is difference from 20th C average - most of the country is 10-20 F above normal

Following up …

So, how’s everyone enjoying this winter storm? Looks like another foot of snow dropped on my driveway overnight.

The other day when I went to clear the snow from the first part of the storm my snowblower started on the first pull. Man what a feeling!

About an inch here north of Seattle. Worried about Thursday when the storm is supposed to hit. I have an important appointment. Of course some weather services are saying it’s won’t be that bad.

Love seeing snow at places where I am not. :)

We had a barely white Christmas here in upstate NY, but it melted overnight and it is beautiful and balmy here today.

This is the kind of snowfall that normally wouldn’t stick around for more than a day in Seattle, but with the deep freeze about to hit, it’s going to linger for up to a couple of weeks.

6 inches or so here in Stanwood. Now I have to go outside and play in it with the kid. Please kid, grow up quicker!

I went out at 6:30am for a short walk. Love the silence and lack of people out. It wasn’t too bad, but it’s slowly getting colder out there, so I don’t think I want to go back out today. I probably should go shovel at some point though.

Got 6 inches over night here in Poulsbo, WA too. And it’s still coming down right now pretty good. And pretty darn windy blowing it around too.
Out the front window:

Weird how in pictures you can’t really make out that it’s snowing like mad.

Whew! Just finished about three hours of snowblowing. It’s a total winter wonderland here in the sierra foothills.

My deck accumulates a massive drift as the wind passing over the house from about any angle eddies over it.

Huh. We are up toward the bridge and didn’t get near that much. Closer to one inch I’d say

Man am I glad I don’t have that kind of snow! Because I’ve got no snowblower, just shovels!

Given the forecast these are the times I’m happy I’ve got a full propane tank and generator. Because power went off for awhile last year from snow taking out powerlines.

Yeah, I was surprised myself. And it’s still coming down.
