So in other words, everyone in Maine.

Fortunately we have a puzzle from hell to keep us occupied.
Adorable doggie! My three generally love the snow, but even though we have about 8" or more on the ground, it hasn’t snowed actively for a few days, and the temps have been usually around zero, if not less. The dogs do not like that degree of cold; they can’t put their feet down for long!

Here is the aftermath here in southern coastal Maine. I haven’t measured, but it’s hard to say what the total is since there was so much drifting. I’d estimate about 14-15 inches or so.
Back porch:
Front porch, which is covered so usually gets very little snow on it, but thanks to the wind probably has six inches or so?
Our plow guy still hasn’t shown up, but he usually comes to us pretty late. I’m not clear whether he wants us to fire him, because I know he hates doing our driveway because it’s kind of awkward, hehe. I suspect that one of these days he’s going to call us up and just tell us he can’t do our property anymore, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the storm to do it, hehe. Anyway, we have nowhere to go, and even if it wasn’t the weekend, we work at home, so we’re in no rush.

Tomorrow they are calling for temperatures in the Detroit Metro area to be in the 40’s, a nice one day break from the single digit crap we have had for a few weeks. Then, starting Wednesday, they are predicting that the area is going to get blasted with up to 14" of snow. And by Friday, the temps are expected to drop possibly below zero. Its the weather rollercoaster from hell. Gawd I hate winter.

They looks like a really nice front porch and view. I’ve never been to Maine but somehow it looks very Maine to me! :)

Ever since winter really started in January we haven’t had a multi-day thaw at all, which is pretty unusual. I’ll keep saying though that I appreciate that we’ve really had winter in January this year. The last few years have pretty much been mild January followed by much colder and snowier Feb and March. I’d be happy with our Jan/early February deep freeze being followed by a milder ramp into spring this year!

Folks that live Downeast like to say that Portland (or the Portland area which is where Hansey and I both live) is real nice and only three hours from Maine :-)
That is a nice view @Hansey

I feel like we’re headed for a two season world. Cold Season, with massive storms and fires and Hot Season, with fires and strong winds. And storms.
January sucked here, though we didn’t get dumped on with snow. Just frostbiting cold. Seems like it’s been about three weeks with most days below freezing and a handful of those days in single digits.
The cold seems to hit me harder because I’m older now. I really see the advantage of being a snowbird. I’d love to go somewhere warm for January and February. Maybe someday.
Not exactly the kind of snowbird I had in mind!

Thank you both! We like it. :) When we first moved in and we’d occasionally have workers to the house doing one thing or another, every single one of them, without fail, would say “You got a real nice spot here!” about the property, hehe.
But yeah, as orald says, we live in the part of Maine where most of the population lives, hehe… go farther up north and you’re really in the sticks. Even at that, this is the most rural place I’ve ever lived. I live in Freeport, home to LL Bean, population 8,000 and generally gets over 3 million visitors in tourists every year. During the summer I see more out of state and Canada plates than Maine plates.

I always feel sorry for Canadians going to Maine because they think it has nice beaches…
Some models are actually predicting over 30" of snow for southern Michigan now. I can’t wait. It shouldn’t all drop overnight or anything, so the roads should hopefully have a reasonable amount of snow on them. I didn’t have a problem driving through the unplowed roads in my truck during the blizzard last February when there was 18"-24" on them, but 30" is a bit much, especially when you consider how high the drifts will be if the wind picks up.

45.2 F in Key West this morning, which isn’t actually a record (which is 41F, see replies)
