Shrug, makes sense to me. Easier to say “hey remember Landon?” than “hey, remember the blizzard in january 2022?”

This is how religions are formed.

That works for both the post you’re actually reply to and the post right above yours.

I do thing the named storms thing can be useful when you’ve got multiple at a time to talk about. This current storm was being talked about as the big storm hit the NE over the weekend. It helps to be able to distinguish those in a consistent way.

And just to be clear: all in good fun. :)

I guess it’s better than local news trying to combine the weather with an assortment of terms like -geddon and -pocalypse.

Snowmageddon and snowpocalypse are both very useful terms in places that don’t get much snow and the forecast of an inch empties store shelves and causes people to drive like even worse idiots than normal.

And they’re yelling “I won’t be calling you any human names today, 439FC22!”

The prefix ‘bomb’ to any kind of storm annoys me.

How’s the ice storm proceeding for us mid-Midwesters?

My car is frozen shut in the St. Louis area. Any tips on getting the doors open? It’s only getting colder today and tomorrow. Might not see a thaw for a few days.

I’ve seen de-icer you can buy for windshield wipers and that sort of thing. You could try that? I would check to make sure it’s safe for the paint and whatever else, but seems like there should be a product out there to handle it.

Can you get power out to it? Blow dryer might do the trick.

I like this approach the most.

I mean, if all you want to do is get the doors open

Me too.

The problem with de-icer is I don’t have any and my car doors are frozen shut! I was wondering if pouring hot water on it would work, or if it would just make the freeze worse?

I have a couple of chicken and egg-like conundrums. We have two cars. One is frozen shut and the other is in the garage but we have a long driveway and it really needs to be shoveled first. It could get stuck in that deep snow.

No problem, though! I bought a snow-blower at a garage sale this past summer and it works well. Except I didn’t really think it through and I need an extra long heavy duty extension cord for it so I can clear my driveway. Doing 10 feet in a 100 foot driveway doesn’t help much.

So I’ll just use some de-icer on the other car and use it to go buy the extra long extension cord. Oh wait, I have no de-icer. I’ll just use the other car after I clear the driveway with my snow-blower to get the de-icer except…

First world problems, friends. They’re tough! Dammit, where’s that snow shovel? Ugh.

I wouldn’t recommend it in that kind of cold, I would be worried you would just add to the ice. :)
