I’ve been on that very stretch of road and holy fuck I can so easily see that happening.

People are so fucking stupid. Unbelievable.

I’ve pulled people out of ditches on icy days like that.
Don’t gawp like an idiot staring at the camera. Get active or get gone. I 100% have no issue with someone bugging out for their own safety, I do with people loitering and creating more potential for injury. We saw one guy nearly get creamed by a car ricochet in that video. Don’t be that guy.

My friends and I were going to sell teeshirts at a Billy Joel concert. We were on the LIE when it started to snow. Long story short we went into a skid and ended up next to the barricade in the middle lane.
A cop got there fast. After he checked if any of us was seriously injured (we were not) he told us to get the fuck out of the car fast. When asked why he said something like, There is an asshole flying down this road right now. And he will hit you.
Then he walked away.
We got out. Fast.
Ah yes I-81 , where the speed limit is always optional.
I am a good 70 miles south of that area, we had the same snow squall blow through, it was like 30 minutes of zero visibility and the snow stuck to everything.
I’m sure it will. Chevy is replacing it for him, btw.

Hmm, got some of that good wind, my lights have flickered twice but recovered, I’m not even sure what that means. Something is blowing around and grounding out but not tripping the big stuff? Looks like the worst of it is still 30 minutes away.

In 24 hours we have gone from 16 degrees to 63. We are now getting that wind as well. Currently we are getting gusts up to 55 mph. Lots of branches down but no power loss at my house, yet. Power outages are popping up all over the area though but they are not wide spread which likely means branches are taking out lines to individual homes and haven’t killed any main lines yet. Hopefully I’ll make it through the day without losing power.
That was Indianapolis yesterday, from 30’s to around 70. This morning it is back to 30’s after a night of high winds. This morning I had to remove dead branches from the roof before heading in to work, on the way veering around a few downed trees that had only partially been removed from the roads.

Oh boy, I wonder who wins the heat dome lottery this year! Is Oregon ready for another go, @CraigM?

We just bought a new house we close on in a month.
We have no idea the state of the AC (its a well maintained house generally, but definitely still a fixer upper).
The bright side we are above normal precipitation, most rain since 2016, so at least it isn’t so dry in the Wilamette valley area

Congrats on the new home, Craig!! Hope the precipitation continues. Please send some our way. :(
Western Washington and the Wilamette are pretty much the only drought-free areas from the Rockies on west.
As a Portlander I dread the coming wildfire smoke (and yeah, maybe another horrible heat dome).
(How funny, the spell check doesn’t recognize Portlander.)
People around here say Portlander for our residents, despite what one may gather from the Fred Armisen/Carrie Brownstein joint (which was really funny). I think they grabbed the name from this statue.
EDIT: I think Portlandian is more used as an adjective to describe some aspect of the city, like “Portlandian food cart culture” or “Portlandian hipster chic.”

Spellcheck keeps insisting to me that it’s Utahan rather than Utahn, despite me never hearing or seeing the former from any local in my entire life.
At least Nevadans don’t have to deal with spellcheck shenanigans, just outsiders pronouncing the state Nevahdah.
Yeah its going up to the 90’s this weekend, I hope to have time to get the AC unit cleaned tomorrow before it gets too hot. Just need to hose it off from the inside out and oil the fan motor.
