Nothing exciting like a hurricane or a derecho, just regularly scheduled bitchin’ about July.
Sigh.
Instead of complaining, just fry some eggs on the hood of your car. You’ll be cookin’ with Mother Nature instead of gas!

That’s too funny. I like to go on a walk along some trails (thankfully I have a trail by my house and by my office) when I need a lunch break at work. On Friday I mentioned to a coworker I’d be AFK for about an hour as I was heading out and got a “Are you crazy?! It’s so hot out there” response. I said I’d just crack an egg over my bald head and as soon as it started to fry I’d know it was time to get in from the heat. I see we’re thinking along the same lines! :)
I wonder if the 100+ people moving to Austin every day ever check the weather for summer time or just don’t care (find that hard to believe).
They just eclipsed 2008, the point at which I made up my mind to leave Austin in my rear view mirror (took a few more years of finagling with employer to work full remote so I could leave):
100.4 degrees:** Average maximum temperature in June.
That’s the highest such reading for June and the first time it’s been in triple digits, according to the weather service. It’s also what happens when two-thirds of the month’s daytime highs are 100 degrees or warmer. Austin logged 21 days of triple-digit temperatures in June, eclipsing the previous record of 20 days for the month, set in 2008.

Austin is humid as well? I don’t care how nice the town is, no fucking way for me. I can handle 104F because it’s dry. Humidity just makes me want to die.
Heh. I’m close to retirement. I am really thinking we need to figure out how to do the snowbird thing. I strongly dislike temperature extremes. Both extreme cold and heat keep me trapped inside the house. It’s a drag.

Theres cheapish houses along the Oregon coast. You’ll stay a consistently cool 60 year round. Middle of August? Max 80°. Middle of January? Minimum 40.
That’s interesting, thanks.
Right now we are leaning towards living in Mexico in the cold weather months. We’re maybe 18 months from retiring, though that could accelerate a bit.
I lived/worked in Houston for a time, you needed a change of clothes just walking from your car into the office from the parking lot.
Easily the most evil weather I’ve ever lived in, I love Houston but dear god their weather is unlivable. Might explain why they have miles and miles of underground tunnels downtown so you never have to be above ground in it, haha. No really, they do in fact have miles of tunnels downtown.
When looking to move this was the other place I considered, I ran a marathon once upon another life time ago in a little down called Newport and fell in love instantly with the place.

Oregon Coast is heaven, other than rain and fog and not very warm temps year round. My parents almost bought a business in Seaside years ago and my Uncle had a house in Cannon Beach. My mom is living in San Miguel De Allende and loves it down there but it’s pretty warm and she misses PNW weather…uh…I wouldn’t!

They have a great aquarium, lots of sandy beaches, close access to one of the best tide pools in the state, a beach you can collect fossils in, and have several seal haul outs nearby. Newport is really great. Its also only about 2 hours away from me so is a few times a year visit for me. Really anywhere between Newport and Astoria is pretty great. South too, but there is a distinct lack of access to civilization there :)

Newport is rad, and all you have to worry about is the occasional tsunami and potential regionally devastating earthquake.
That’s on our list of places to see in Mexico. Supposed to be very artsy there. Lots of painters and writers.
I know it gets hot in Mexico, but it’s 96 degrees where I am right now in the St. Louis area and in Mazatlan, MX it’s 90. I’m not convinced it gets hotter in Mexico than it gets in St. Louis.

She and her husband have been living down there for 8 years now and I have never visited. Then, I see it’s number 1 destination for Travel & Leisure magazine and was number one a few years back also…gotta get me a passport!
It looks like 72- 84 average highs year round …so pretty nice. She makes it sound worse than that because of her love for rain!

One thing that I like about Florida. We don’t get that hot. It’s a peninsula. We get ocean breeze from the west and the east. It causes a bit of rain every day. But we don’t get temps that high.

Two words.
Swamp. Ass.
Don’t you try lying to me Richard, as soon as I can peel myself off the vinyl patio chair it is on.
Yeah, it’s highly ranked as a destination, and there’s an expat community there. That’s the thing about some of the cities in Mexico. They have enough expats that make it more comfortable to be there if you are not native. It’s also elevated so a bit cooler.
Get a passport. They are good for 10 years. Go see your mom. I bet you will enjoy what you find there.
Let’s nøt førget the løveli hurricanes!

Toasty this week!

Amazingly TEXAS power grid hasn’t collapsed yet.
