I know this hurricane is a real bummer, but I wouldn’t shed too many tears if Mar-a-Lago came out of it a little worse for wear.

The kinder, gentler Everything Else forum. In P&R they want to nuke the whole state!
I have quite a bit of family there. But sometimes, difficult decisions must be made.

It would be great, if not for the smoke. Not bad, but I don’t want to be outside.

We have family in Tampa. They have prepped but have not evacuated yet. Regardless, we remain ready to take them in, though that’s a loooong drive if needed.
The only pause I’m seeing right now is it looks like the track is moving south a bit and may cross over Cape Coral, but honestly it’s changing by the hour.
Got word from my parents that they made it into St Pete and back out again, got themselves north out of the way, up around Perry. Apparently the evac up that far wasn’t too bad, heavy traffic but no major jams. So good news there, and now it’s just a waiting game for the storm to pass and then see what kind of damage was done.

Unless they’re in a high risk area or leave right now, it’s probably too late and more risky to get stuck in traffic. Might as well sit back and wait at this point.

Yeah they passed that along in phone conversations we’ve had. They are more inland a bit but that won’t matter too much with the size of this storm. Here’s hoping it misses the area as a direct hit though.

Finally proof they exist beyond the cartoon!
Sounds like that is fake?

Good luck to my Florida friends.
Just to comment on the temps, here in the north Minneapolis suburbs we woke up to a crisp 30 this morning. I f’ing hate winter. In a few months 30 will be a heat wave here.
Wow, that’s incredible. The large condo building looks like it will be OK as the first residential floor is a good 12 feet or so off the ground. Their rental office, maintenance office and any storage areas on the ground floor (as well as the pool and anything else at ground level) are going to need a lot of cleanup, but most buildings like that were designed to be able to take a hit like this.
Those houses across the street though…it looks like they may all have ground floor living space, which is just stupid when you live across the street from the Gulf. I hope everyone in them evacuated long before the storm hit.
Stay safe Florida QT3 folks!

I know that there are a lot of people who have roots there, who don’t have the means to get out and live elsewhere yadda yadda, but what I can’t fathom is why people with no family there etc. want to live in Florida and move there. I mean, it’s comfortable at most, what 3 months of the year? The rest is Humidity City, right? That plus the yearly Hurricane Lottery just makes me wonder what the appeal is. I guess the food can be pretty good, and there are obviously a lot of cultural attractions (it’s not all “Florida man…”).
Why subject yourself to it if you don’t have to is what I’m asking.
The humid climate is kind of nice:
The Everglades are a natural wonder; they create, for lack of a better term, this upwellling that generates all these spectacular clouds and lightning storms, especially in the fall:
The locals are beautiful

Hey man, you gotta think humid climate is kind of nice if you’re moving to Florida, you know? Or you’ll be miserable all the time. And that’s no way to live a life.
