Well that’s why I moved almost as far from Florida as you can get in the lower 48 ;)

I lived in the Cape Canaveral area for a year (Merritt Island) and it was easily one of the worst places I have lived. Humid, rained daily, flat, huge bugs, and the locals love to express their political opinions. Also, in the summer the place is jammed with tourists. On the other hand, walking to the grocery store and seeing an alligator never stopped getting old.
It’s weird. Growing up in the PNW, the only license plates you’d see were WA, OR, CA, and BC.
I’ve lost track of the Texas and Florida plates I’ve seen this month alone.
I was nearly run off the road today by someone with New Jersey plates.
They get a lot of retirees who hate cold and would rather slow-fry in the sun. But yeah, we crossed it off our list a long time ago due to the heat and the politics. We hope to be snowbirds and avoid the temperature extremes that way.

The trick to Florida is you simply don’t go outside during the day for 6 months unless it’s to a body of water. Air conditioning keeps the humidity perfect. If you work an office job, it’s irrelevant.
The same trick is true for Texas, I still left it as soon as I could.
Just heard from my parents down in St Pete, they made it back home and their neighborhood has very little damage. Some debris and the power had been out, but otherwise it was just a big bunch of rain. Everything is back to normal already there, no major cleanup needed. Very fortunate for them to live in St Pete and not a ways further south in the Fort Meyers area where it got really bad.

Hurricanes are wide but it’s always remarkable to me how the most destructive impact can be limited to a relatively small scale. A few last-minute tweaks to the path is sometimes enough to dodge them. Of course it’s better when that means they go back out to sea instead of right at someone else.

Fun fact, the same trick of not going outside works on the cold during the winter up here in the north! Plus that’s only like 3 months of being too cold to be outside plus maybe a month in the summer.
Hah. The outside IS a body of water 🥵

Well, the Firday forecast here looks fun, and I gotta work.
Tropical storm ending in potentially freezing rain.

One projection shows it devastating all of Canada next week on its way to Russia.
Does that projection include a Sharpie?
Its in the shape of a golf club!
You’d hate to make decisions with a map like that! Also, isn’t the water way too cold to keep fueling a storm that far north?

So it’s looking like we get the big hit here in Orlando. Not going to skate like the last one. Probably lose power after midnight. In fucking November.
Oof. That sucks. Stay safe, man.
